00:00 (whispering)
00:02 Hello, my name is Huddy, otherwise known as Chase Hudson,
00:09 and welcome to my mind massage.
00:12 I'm going to take you on a sound journey
00:16 using some of my favorite things.
00:27 So this is my jewelry bag.
00:30 I take this with me everywhere I go,
00:33 which is why it is so dirty,
00:35 and why it still says Laudy instead of Huddy.
00:38 This, for example, this is my Gromards necklace.
00:44 I wear this pretty much every day.
00:47 This, which was handmade for me from Geoff Jewelry,
00:53 one of my friends.
00:54 It took him two months to make this,
00:58 and it's really cool, it's neat.
01:00 It's got engravings on the front and the back.
01:03 I love it.
01:04 Another one of my favorites as well.
01:06 This I got when I went to Capri, Italy.
01:14 I stopped in a random store
01:17 when I was walking around,
01:21 and the store was about 10 feet wide.
01:24 Got black diamonds, and I think this is bone
01:29 that they marrowed down into a tiny,
01:33 little, tiny white dragon.
01:35 So I go by the name Huddy now.
01:40 I was Lil Huddy growing up.
01:43 Pretty much my whole life, that was my nickname,
01:45 and when I turned 20,
01:48 I felt like there was a need to change my name.
01:52 I felt like the best thing for me to do
01:56 was to change my artist name
01:59 and let people know that I was once something as a kid,
02:05 and now I'm something else.
02:08 I'm almost a different person, a new entity, a new vision,
02:13 and I'm gonna take that everywhere with me.
02:17 The most played song on my phone right now
02:20 is Ventura Highway.
02:22 It's this really good record from the '80s,
02:25 and I listened to it when I was on vacation
02:29 in the mountains when I was fishing on a boat,
02:31 and ever since then, I've listened to it every morning
02:36 on my way to the studio, and it gives me a good vibe.
02:42 Any hidden talents?
02:43 I don't think I have too many hidden talents.
02:46 I'm very intuitive,
02:48 and I feel like intellectually talented
02:52 in a way that people don't quite understand.
02:54 [laughs]
02:56 I first knew I wanted to start making music
02:59 when I was really young, honestly.
03:02 I was writing songs in the shower
03:06 when I was like seven or eight years old,
03:10 and seeing my dad get really into learning instruments
03:15 got me into singing with him.
03:17 From there, I always wanted to be a musician.
03:22 I feel like there's two really big music inspirations
03:24 for me right now,
03:26 and one of them would be Vic Fuentes from Pierce of Vale.
03:31 He's been a really big influence on my new work.
03:35 I've been really studying how he transformed his sound
03:38 from the very beginning to where it is now,
03:40 and how he's carried himself throughout the different eras,
03:44 him as a person, and honestly,
03:46 he's such a nice, humble person,
03:49 and that's something I aspire to take with me
03:52 throughout my whole life.
03:53 Another musician that I really look up to right now
03:57 is Lenny Kravitz.
03:59 I think he's got the most swag out of any musician,
04:03 and has been able to hold that status
04:08 for such a long time.
04:10 He's been killing the games ever since he came in,
04:14 so for my next option, I've got
04:19 this year candle, and I got this at a flea market
04:27 for not that expensive,
04:29 and this right here, my girlfriend got for her birthday.
04:34 Little matchboxes for everybody as party favors,
04:38 and I chose this because I really love candles.
04:44 I feel like they're such an essential part of life,
04:47 and of the vibe that you bring to a room,
04:50 and just about every room that you go into my house,
04:55 there's a different candle light,
04:57 and the different smells that each room gives off
05:02 is so nice and different,
05:06 and it feels like you're walking to a different place,
05:08 but I've been really getting into
05:11 the larger candle wicks recently,
05:13 and I really like them.
05:16 This is one that you can just carry around at night,
05:19 just kind of like this.
05:20 Just kind of in the dark, you know,
05:23 how they did in the old days.
05:25 We're gonna light a match here,
05:29 and light this candle.
05:41 This is mainly for the vibes.
05:44 So my personal style, I would say,
05:50 is a mix of a dark renaissance,
05:55 a little bit of a 70s punk,
06:00 a little hint of like a new day,
06:03 cleaner, more high fashion.
06:07 It's really hard to put into words
06:08 because it also changes every day,
06:11 and I would say it's the same,
06:13 but no matter where my style goes or evolves to,
06:16 it kind of falls back down
06:18 under one of those three categories.
06:20 If I could travel to any point in time,
06:24 in history, the time that the ancient Egyptians
06:30 ruled the world, just to see what it's like,
06:33 like be like an overseer of what was going on there,
06:36 because I feel like they know so many things that we don't,
06:40 and they had very interesting ways of thinking,
06:45 and I wanna know why.
06:51 I wanna know why they built pyramids,
06:55 and I wanna know how they came to worshiping their gods
07:00 and worshiping cats.
07:04 If I could have any animal,
07:06 I think it would be a snow leopard.
07:11 I want, like, I would get one of those big cats.
07:14 A lion would be cool, 'cause they have the beautiful mane,
07:18 but I would say snow leopard
07:20 because their unique spots and their unique coat,
07:24 the all-white fur is really beautiful,
07:26 and they're a little smaller too.
07:28 They're not as scary, I would say,
07:29 so I would get like a little pup,
07:31 like a little tiny baby pup.
07:35 I brought cameras.
07:37 Now I brought two cameras.
07:39 I brought the disposable film camera,
07:41 one because it makes a fun noise when you roll it,
07:46 and when you snap the photo, it's even more fun,
07:57 even more satisfying.
08:00 I'm gonna take a picture of you
08:01 with the second camera I brought.
08:05 This one over here.
08:06 This is my everyday camera.
08:10 This is my baby, and it makes a fun noise when you turn it on.
08:13 That's for flash.
08:16 Turn on the flash, and then you hold it down lightly,
08:24 and it makes, like, the most satisfying noises, honestly.
08:28 Like, it's so good, and then you just...
08:33 If you've seen anything that isn't a professional photo
08:37 on my Instagram, or if you think it's a professional photo,
08:40 and it's not, it's on this camera.
08:42 I take this everywhere with me.
08:45 This goes on all my trips, and if I don't bring it,
08:50 I'm in trouble, because I don't know how else
08:54 I'm gonna take photos if it's not with this.
08:56 So I have this song called "Love Bites" that's coming,
09:00 and this is probably the most reinventing song
09:05 that I've made so far.
09:11 It's sonically different than anything I've ever made.
09:15 I think it's a lot more fun than anything I've ever made.
09:19 I think it's perfect for a night out.
09:22 I loved it so much that I made it my EP title
09:26 because of how much I loved it, honestly.
09:30 I couldn't have it any other way.
09:32 So I made it both the single and the EP title.
09:35 It's a key factor in telling the story of what the EP is,
09:40 and the EP is essentially a story about how love comes,
09:46 and it scares you, and it can be toxic, or weird,
09:53 or crazy at first, but how you start to accept it,
10:00 or to accept love no matter how intense it may be,
10:04 or how scared you might be to love,
10:07 and how when you finally accept it,
10:09 that things look brighter from there.
10:11 So if I were to have a superpower,
10:14 I would be able to control the water.
10:20 I'd wanna be like Poseidon.
10:24 Always thought Poseidon was the coolest of the ancient,
10:29 ancient Greek mythology,
10:31 and I've always loved the movie Percy Jackson growing up.
10:35 And I was actually Percy in sixth grade.
10:41 My dad actually, he was my teacher.
10:45 He made us all dress up in ancient Greek mythology costumes,
10:50 and I chose Percy.
10:51 And I don't know how I would use it.
10:57 I feel like it would be the coolest superpower to have,
11:00 for sure, being able to walk on water,
11:03 split water, throw water, you know.
11:08 One of the cool things I thought was fun
11:13 about Percy Jackson was that the water healed him
11:15 whenever he was hurt, too.
11:17 So essentially, you're almost like invincible.
11:20 All right, so for my next one,
11:25 we have a hairspray.
11:28 Now, this isn't my hairspray.
11:29 It's my girlfriend's,
11:32 but this is the volume hairspray,
11:36 and I brought this today,
11:37 one, because I haven't done my hair today,
11:40 but two, because it makes a great noise,
11:46 and it's kinda fun being able to fluff with your hair.
11:49 So, oh wait, this is cool, too.
11:54 (taps hair)
11:57 I don't know how to do ASMR,
11:58 but I hope I'm doing good so far.
12:01 I think we're gonna start with this side.
12:06 (sprays)
12:08 That did not sound good.
12:10 It sounds like the hairspray's dying.
12:12 I like to go like this.
12:18 This is actually how I do my hair.
12:20 I can teach you.
12:21 So I get out of the shower, I brush it back.
12:24 I part it two ways.
12:25 As you can see, this way and this way.
12:29 It's not like a middle part, but a side part,
12:33 and then I just kinda run my hands through my hair
12:34 so you can have different hairs going each way,
12:37 different textures,
12:39 and then I go back around this way,
12:41 and I kinda do the same thing.
12:45 Oh wait, I'm whispering,
12:48 and I kinda do the same thing on this side,
12:51 and I just grab it and curl it a little bit.
12:54 Just kinda (beep) with it,
12:56 and then sometimes I'll mess with the bangs as well.
13:01 (sprays)
13:04 Got some on my forehead.
13:07 And now my hair looks no better or different.
13:14 If I could listen to one genre of music
13:17 for the rest of my life,
13:20 I think it'd have to be a mellow '70s, '80s playlist.
13:25 I could live off of that perfectly fine.
13:30 I wake up in the morning, I tell Alexa,
13:32 I go, "Hey, Alexa, play a mellow '70s song,"
13:35 and she sets me right every time my day's started.
13:38 Just kind of like a soft rock.
13:40 Like an Elton John, like a relaxing Bee Gees song.
13:47 Like, "How Deep Is Your Love?"
13:50 I'd listen to that one a lot too.
13:52 Like in the Beatles and The Journey and The Eagles,
13:56 stuff like that.
13:57 My best self-love advice,
14:00 that you can always start from today,
14:02 you are carrying yourself each and every day
14:08 based off of what you did that day.
14:11 Say you were to go and eat super healthy for a week,
14:16 that'd be a start in a new journey,
14:18 and it's never too late to start something new for yourself
14:23 or to take care of yourself.
14:27 But besides that,
14:29 I think learning to be happy for yourself's a big thing,
14:35 and to look at your accomplishments
14:40 and give yourself a pat on the back,
14:43 and to look at the hard work that you do,
14:46 and to give yourself credit.
14:48 I think it's something that is so hard
14:49 for us to do sometimes.
14:52 So I think slowing down,
14:54 giving yourself a chance to breathe
14:57 and think through what your life is,
15:00 and to look on the bright side,
15:04 to see what there is to appreciate,
15:08 to see what it is about yourself that you wanna change.
15:13 Being able to acknowledge that
15:15 is the first step in the right direction.
15:17 As long as you're paying attention to what it is that
15:23 is hurting you,
15:26 you always have a chance to improve yourself
15:30 and to change it.
15:31 Thank you so much for coming to my mind massage,
15:35 and make sure to check out my EP, "Love Bites."
15:38 See you later.
15:39 (sucking)
15:41 (electronic beeping)
