00:00 It is possible that the current price will rise again next month
00:04 because of the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission
00:07 that the plants can be sold
00:10 the part that they sold as reserve power last March.
00:13 Here is my report.
00:15 Hazel La Chica is like a jackpot round in a contest.
00:21 But what she reveals is not the grand prize, but bills in Meralco.
00:26 Her usual 11,000 pesos bill in electricity reached 16,000 this month.
00:32 The neighbors in Quezon City are passing their bills through the fence
00:39 and where they will get payment from Judith or Juday of Bayaran.
00:43 Show him the receipt.
00:46 You know, show him how much you received.
00:48 His mother will be surprised. She'll say, "Why did you buy from me?"
00:51 And then, ask him where he will get it from.
00:53 Oh my God!
00:55 It's really Judith.
00:58 It's not Marites, it's Judith.
00:59 The consumption of electricity is really high whenever it's hot
01:04 and the electric bill is expected to rise again because of the high bill.
01:08 The generation charge, transmission charge, taxes, and others have increased.
01:12 All of these will be passed and paid by consumers.
01:15 But it's not only Meralco that has a high bill.
01:18 In the survey of the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives,
01:20 31 cooperatives said that the bill is high.
01:24 Region 6 or Western Visayas and Region 1 or Ilocos Region are the most affected.
01:29 They are just distributors of electricity, collectors, and remitters.
01:33 We are just worried because consumers don't understand.
01:36 Some electric cooperatives are studying an installment plan for those who are struggling to pay.
01:41 Can this be done by Meralco?
01:43 We don't have that mechanism.
01:45 The high bill is possible to be followed for the next few months.
01:49 The Energy Regulatory Commission has allowed the bill to be passed
01:51 to cut 30% of the electricity plants that sold their reserve power last March.
01:57 The ERC suspended the bill because it's expensive to sell and it will affect the generation charge.
02:03 The ERC said that it will be felt in the June electric bill,
02:06 but the agency has yet to say how much.
