At university, the awkward Elphaba befriends the popular Galinda and practices sorcery in the hopes of meeting her idol, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

00:09 If there was one, I'd always say it'd be "Wicked."

00:15 On my 25th birthday, I took myself to see the show.
00:18 I had never heard anything or seen anything like it.
00:21 I remember that. It was, like, a rainy night,
00:22 and I felt really alive.
00:26 I felt like I was floating on air.
00:31 I had the incredible privilege of seeing
00:34 the original Broadway cast of "Wicked" when I was 10,
00:37 and I just felt an immediate bond.
00:40 I'm sure that you have dreamed of playing
00:42 one of the two roles. Would you be Elphaba or Glinda?
00:43 Glinda.
00:44 You'd be Glinda? For sure.
00:47 It had a very personal effect on me.
00:49 This is a very cinematic show.
00:51 This should be on the big screen.
00:53 There's sort of this innate understanding
00:56 of what it feels like to be someone who's different.
01:00 It's always been the thing that I listen to when I'm nervous,
01:03 when I'm needing an escape, when I need comfort.

01:09 I went in for my first audition,
01:11 and I just remember being, like, buzzing.
01:14 And when she came in,
01:16 she was an Ari that I'd never seen before.
01:19 And then I got the call to come in.

01:27 Cynthia is so raw and vulnerable,
01:30 and I couldn't get her out of my head.

01:34 The world needs to see more of you.
