00:00They insisted, as was their right under the law,
00:02that the DA put me before the grand jury.
00:05So, I was scheduled for a Monday.
00:07On the Friday before, I gave the DA's office
00:10the courtesy of a Zoom conference
00:12for about an hour and a half.
00:14Eight assistant district attorneys and me on the other end.
00:17I explained, they didn't really ask me any questions,
00:21they just said, what do you want to say?
00:23Nice warm greeting for somebody
00:25who's trying to show them the right path
00:27quietly and privately,
00:28so that they could correct their error before they made it.
00:32Here's what happened.
00:33We're gonna have to, we'll stop there, Mr. Costa.
00:35We'll get back to you during the questions.
00:37Okay.
00:38Did I run out of my time already?
00:39Yeah, a little bit.
00:39Yeah, a little bit, a little bit.
00:40That's fine.
00:41I had eight minutes.
00:42This says I have 1.38 to go, or is 1.38 over?
00:441.38 over.
00:45I'm sorry.
00:46That's fine, that's fine.
00:46Excuse me, Mr. Chair, point of order.
00:49Will the witnesses all be given seven, eight minutes?
00:51What is that?
00:52Yeah.
00:53It's usually five.
00:54So, we didn't know that in advance
00:56to be able to call a witness.
00:57We're gonna give a little extra time.
00:58But she didn't have time to prepare
01:00eight minutes of testimony, opening statement.
01:03She's a smart lawyer.
01:04She can probably ad lib for a few minutes if she'd like,
01:07but that's totally up to her.
01:07We'd like it to be something more than ad lib,
01:10as we just heard, or testify.
01:12We listened to you talk for 14 minutes and 14 seconds.
01:14That's called an opening statement.
01:16I'm allowed to talk as long as I want.
01:17I know, and I was fine.
01:18I let you go 14 minutes and 14 seconds.
01:20You can, you have to let me go for 14 minutes.
01:22That's exactly right.
01:23That's what I wanted to do.
01:24Exactly, exactly right.
01:25Mr. Trustee, you are recognized for your opening statement.
01:26Courtesy of advance notice would have been helpful.
