Will Rogers delivers “A New Slant on War” on Victor 45347, recorded on February 6, 1923.

Will Rogers was once famous--so was Harry Lauder. They were "household names." The recordings left behind by these two entertainers have not stood the test of time. The discs made are largely forgotten.

Rogers was born on November 4 , 1879, in Oologah, Oklahoma. He was was born at his father’s ranch. This was Indian Territory at the time. He learned how to rope cattle and ride horses.

This humorist (or comedian) enjoyed success on Broadway, in vaudeville, and in films. His voice could be heard often on radio.

His recordings did not sell well. They are not easy to find.

As a comic, Rogers liked to make comments about what he read in newspapers. That enabled him to change his material on a regular basis, but comic remarks about contemporary events is that the type of comedy to appeal to listeners a century later.

He died on August 15 , 1935, in Point Barrow, Alaska.
