00:00Israeli War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz has issued a stark ultimatum, threatening
00:24to resign unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlines a comprehensive post-war strategy
00:29for the Gaza Strip by 8 June.
00:31Gantz demands a plan to achieve six key strategic goals, including ending Hamas rule in Gaza
00:37and establishing a multinational civilian administration for the territory.
00:41"'If you prioritize the national interest over personal agendas, we will be your partners
00:46in this struggle,' Gantz stated.
00:48But if you choose the path of extremism and lead the nation towards disaster, we will
00:52be compelled to leave the government."
00:54Netanyahu dismissed Gantz's ultimatum as empty rhetoric, asserting that it would mean
00:59defeat for Israel.
01:02The rift within the Israeli government comes amid ongoing intense fighting at both ends
01:06of the Gaza Strip, with Israeli forces operating in Rafah in the south and Jabalia in the north,
01:12an area previously declared clear of Hamas fighters by the Israeli military.
01:16Gantz demands follow recent comments by another War Cabinet member, Defense Minister Yoav
01:20Galland, who urged Netanyahu to clarify that Israel has no intention of maintaining civilian
01:25and military control in Gaza.
01:27Galland argued that such control would heighten Israel's security risks, a view echoed by
01:32Gantz.
01:33However, some far-right members of Netanyahu's coalition argue that continued control is
01:37necessary to defeat Hamas.
01:39In a televised address, Gantz emphasized the gravity of the situation.
01:43"'The people of Israel are watching you,' he told Netanyahu.
01:46You must choose between Zionism and cynicism, between unity and division, between responsibility
01:51and cures, between victory and disaster."
01:53Gantz's six strategic goals also include securing the return of all Israeli and foreign
01:58hostages held by Hamas, ensuring the return of displaced Palestinian civilians to northern
02:02Gaza by 1 September, and continuing efforts to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia as
02:07part of a broader strategy to build an alliance with the West against Iran and its allies.
02:12Netanyahu responded by warning that meeting Gantz's demands would result in the end of
02:17the war and a defeat for Israel, abandoning most hostages, leaving Hamas intact, and leading
02:22to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
02:26The war cabinet was formed following a brutal Hamas attack on Israeli communities near Gaza
02:30on 7 October, which resulted in around 1,200 Israeli deaths and numerous hostages taken.
02:36Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza has, according to Hamas-run health ministry,
02:41resulted in 35,386 deaths.
