00:00 I said yesterday in Parliament it was a day of shame for the British state.
00:04 What's happened over decades has been a failure on multiple levels
00:09 and it's important that yesterday was a day for the community to be heard
00:14 and they have waited an incredibly long time for justice and for the truth
00:19 and today was about that and that's why I rightly as Prime Minister
00:23 offered an unequivocal apology to everyone affected
00:27 by this appalling scandal. The infected, the affected, everyone impacted
00:31 in the community. They have fought under considerable pressure,
00:35 facing prejudice over many decades. Anyone reading the report
00:39 will have found it harrowing, indeed devastating
00:42 and I'm glad that yesterday was a moment for reflection
00:46 on everything that's happened, that their voices could be heard and that they
00:49 receive the apology that they so rightly deserve. Anyone,
00:52 people, individuals where there is evidence of wrongdoing, of course there
00:55 must be justice and accountability for that.
00:58 But the report is very long, it's very comprehensive
01:01 and what I committed to is that the government will now take the time to go
01:04 through it properly and rigorously before
01:07 responding in detail in Parliament and of course any individual cases will be a
01:12 matter for the relevant authorities.
