00:00Without objection, the gentleman is recognized.
00:02Mr. Speaker, on this National Police Week, I rise to honor the brave men and women of law enforcement.
00:07This week could not have come at a more important time.
00:09Many members of law enforcement, both rookies and 30-year veterans, are disheartened
00:14far too often by the treatment police officers have experienced in recent years.
00:18Their dedication is to protect and serve their communities,
00:21and yet, far too often, they are disrespected, defunded, demoralized, and even demonized.
00:26Not by many, but enough.
00:28And, too often, by elected community leaders.
00:32This must stop.
00:34Many criminal prosecutors also need to do their jobs.
00:37There are too many violent criminals who break firearm possession laws and are released.
00:43We must enforce the firearm laws that exist.
00:46This will reduce so-called gun violence.
00:50Too many prosecutors are failing to prosecute violent criminals,
00:53this endangers citizens, diminishes public safety, and puts police officers at high risk.
00:59But, as the son of a former police officer, I always back the blue.
01:02There's always room for improvement, but we all should always respect the men and women
01:07who do, in fact, risk their lives to protect and serve,
01:10and, too often, give their lives for their job, community, and for the people they work for.
01:18With that, Mr. Speaker, I yield back.
01:21For what purpose does the gentlewoman from Ohio seek recognition?
