00:00 the conference finals round in the NBA postseason beginning last night in a big way in Boston.
00:10 Late game heroics, a double bang for Jalen Brown and overtime between the Celtics and
00:16 the Pacers. We recap everything from game number one of the Eastern Conference Finals
00:21 before game number one of the Western Conference Finals. Speaking of the conference finals,
00:27 they begin tonight on the ice in the Stanley Cup playoffs as well. Daily grind around Major
00:32 League Baseball and some football conversations as the NFL has reported for OTAs. All of that
00:39 more DRS here until 11 a.m. Eastern. Late May, the place to be right here on the Sports
00:44 Grid Network, that is for sure. And last night if you were watching that Pacers-Celtics game
00:48 going like, "Oh boy, looks like we got a legitimate chance to have a seven-game series and we
00:52 might have that," you just can't turn the basketball over, Ben. Twenty-plus times in
00:57 a game on the road and expect to come away with a victory in turning the basketball over
01:01 in the biggest moments. But yesterday saw some great things also on the Diamond. A lot
01:05 of home runs going out. The Phillies won another baseball game yesterday against the World
01:10 Champions. We'll see what happens today, but we got a long way to go, Ben, over the next
01:13 three hours. In MLB best, 35 victories for those fightings and there's no better pitcher
01:19 in MLB this year than one Ranger Suarez. But we'll get to Major League Baseball in just
01:25 a moment. A thriller last night inside TD Garden in the opening game of the Eastern
01:30 Conference Finals between the Celtics and the Pacers. But the odds makers did not expect
01:36 a thriller. In fact, they thought it would be very easy for the Cs. The Celtics closed
01:40 as a double-digit 10-point favorite with a pregame total of .222. That sky's over because
01:47 of overtime and it came down to the final 10 seconds in the fourth quarter after a bad
01:53 inbounds pass from Andrew Nembhard for Indiana with the Pacers up 3-1, 17-1, 14. Rick Carlisle
02:00 refuses to foul up three and Jalen Brown makes some pay hitting a corner three to send the
02:07 game to OT, 1-17 all with just six ticks remaining in regulation. And then it was the other J,
02:14 Jason Tatum scoring 10 of his team high 36 points in the extra session as the Celtics
02:21 prevail in overtime in game number 1, 133-128. Exciting all the way through. We told you
02:28 yesterday we like the over in this game. We like the Boston Celtics team total over. We
02:32 thought Jason Tatum would have a big night. We thought Al Horford would play a lot of
02:36 minutes and have a lot of shooting opportunities and he did. It was a fun game to watch all
02:40 the way through. But if you are the Indiana Pacers waking up this morning knowing you
02:45 should be up 1-0 in this series with legitimate chance to win game number two where the Boston
02:50 Celtics have struggled for the first two rounds and then head back to Indiana up 2-0, that's
02:55 a tough call to swallow because you blew that game down the stretch. But look, great teams
03:01 take advantage of other teams' mistakes. The Boston Celtics did that. They now lead the
03:05 series 1-0. But my goodness, Pacers, you threw the kitchen sink at Boston and you should
03:10 have won and you didn't.
03:13 Indiana down by 15 late in the third quarter. The Celtics got off to a 12-0 start to begin
03:19 the game right out of the gates inside TD Garden. And Indiana did fight its way back
03:26 only to cough it up at the end quite literally. Rick Carlisle fouled when you're up 3 on the
03:33 road trying to steal game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Much more discussion coming
03:38 your way in our next segment. Some news in the ECF outside of the opening game. We knew
03:43 Kristaps Porzingis had been ruled out for games 1 and 2. Reports yesterday, though,
03:48 DRS saying KP can return as early as game 4. Big news for Boston to win the East and
03:56 then also, if they do that, advancing to the NBA Finals with a healthy Porzingis.
04:01 Yeah, it'll certainly help out, but also just goes to show you, so many times we just talk
04:05 about devastating injuries like ACLs and how long they keep you out. Now, granted, calf
04:09 injuries and hamstrings don't keep you out that long, but every time we're like, "Oh,
04:12 he strained his calf. He'll be back in a game or two." We haven't seen Porzingis in weeks
04:16 and now we're talking about maybe getting back in game number 4, but that'll be a big
04:20 boost as long as, again, the Celtics are handling their business.
04:24 Around Major League Baseball we go. A total of 11 and a hook at Wrigley yesterday because
04:30 the winds were blowing out, but DRS said, "Hey, I still think the pitching performances
04:34 keep us under between the Cubs and the Braves. We even went to 10 innings and the total still
04:40 stayed under." 4-3, the Cubbies win on a walk-off infield single. The game-winning RBI off the
04:47 bat of Nico Horner as the Cubs take the opener of their midweek set against Atlanta. 4-3.
04:52 Yeah, there's a couple games last night that we looked at and said, "Man, they are perfect
04:57 scenarios for a lot of runs to be scored, but very good pitchers on the mound." One
05:01 of those games wasn't Philadelphia, but the main one, 20-mile-an-hour winds blowing out
05:04 in Wrigley. That should be an automatic over. We had two really good pitching performances
05:08 in that game. Just what happens here? My goodness. Here we go. Braves. Uh-oh.
05:14 Atlanta has now dropped five of their last six. They trail the Philadelphia Phillies
05:19 by a full six games in the National League East. A walk-off in extras in Chicago. The
05:25 same story in Houston after a huge night for Kyle Tucker. Two home runs leads all of Major
05:32 League Baseball this season. The Astros rally to force extras and in extras. An RBI single
05:39 from Pena delivers the victory for the Stros. It's been a tough start this week over the
05:45 Los Angeles Angels from Anaheim, but it's a victory for the Stros, 6-5.
05:50 A lot of home runs in that game and rightfully so. Small ballpark there. Pitchers that were
05:55 hit-able and you're right, Kyle Tucker. Two for four yesterday, two more home runs, 293
06:00 on the season. Now, Tuve took a collar here, Ben, to lead off for 0-5, but still hitting
06:05 296. This lineup is starting to hit like we thought they would. They just need the pitching
06:09 to come around a little bit here. Still under 500, but again, the key takeaway, nobody's
06:13 running away with the AL West and that's going to help the Astros.
06:17 17 home runs for Kyle Tucker. 36 ribbies as well. Those 17 long balls, the best in
06:24 all of Major League Baseball. He certainly helped out on Dinger Tuesday on the FanDuel
06:29 Sportsbook, as did Bryce Harper in Philadelphia, as did Alec Bohm. Not maybe for Dinger Tuesday,
06:36 but he still has 44 RBIs tied for the most in all of the majors. But there is no better
06:42 pitcher right now in MLB than Rangers Suarez. He has won his last nine starts. He is off
06:48 this season to a 9-0 start with a 1.36 ERA, second best in MLB in Philadelphia. Speaking
06:56 of best, the best record in all of the bigs, the most wins, 35. A 5-2 victory yesterday
07:03 at home over the reigning World Series champs, the Texas Rangers.
07:06 Yeah, Rangers Suarez was absolutely incredible. And as you said, 9-0 in the season, a 1.36
07:11 ERA. The Phillies have two pitchers doing a little bit more old school, Aaron Nolan
07:15 and Rangers Suarez. They don't need to throw 97, 98, 99 and paint the black. They're just
07:19 crafty pitchers here. And you allow them to get complete games, which you saw at Enola
07:23 the past couple of starts. And also, Rangers Suarez going seven innings, but still being
07:27 allowed to throw 108 pitches. This starting staff is tremendous. And the Phillies, 35
07:32 and 14 after knocking off the Texas Rangers, who now fall a game below 500.
07:37 A career best, 10 Ks for Rangers Suarez. He is the first pitcher since 1966 to have
07:44 a 9-0 record in his first 10 starts with a sub 1.50 ERA. He is delivering right now for
07:53 the Philz. WNBA scores from last night, a triple header, as Donnie knows very well.
07:59 It is difficult to walk into the Michelob Ultra Arena and come away with a win over
08:03 the two time reigning champs, the Las Vegas Aces. But that's what the Phoenix Mercury
08:07 did last night, winning by double digits as a 13 and a half point dog, 98-88.
08:14 Look at that, 10 points. Imagine if you reverse that spread here and took that juicy, juicy
08:19 money line. Maybe minus 5.5, minus 6.5 from the Mercury. Whoever did that, congratulations.
08:24 That's a pretty good upset yesterday. WNBA season just getting underway, three games
08:28 into it.
08:29 Make sure you pay attention to Kalia Kopper for Phoenix. 37 last night after a career
08:35 high 38 over the weekend for the Mercury. More NBA news around the association. Victor
08:41 Mwenbunyama, first team all defense in the NBA, becoming the first ever rookie to make
08:47 the first team all defense. A lot of bigs on the first team. The guards made it to the
08:52 second team.
