00:00 Hi, my name is Nikita Murdoch. I'm 23 and I'm the head professional here at the Kings Golf Club.
00:04 I first started playing golf when I was about six or seven
00:07 in Egypt where our family was based once my dad was there at work.
00:12 It was a bit of a culture shift I suppose when we first came to England.
00:17 So I spent about five years in Egypt playing golf. You know, it was just a different place entirely.
00:23 And yeah, when I was about 10 or 11 came over to England and it was definitely a little bit different.
00:27 The courses were different, life became a little bit different.
00:31 Initially it was just a really good way and a fun way just to get out and play golf with my dad.
00:35 And then as a family we all started playing together and it just got more and more fun.
00:39 And a little bit more competitive as me and my brother grew up as well.
00:42 I think when I look back at it now, I think it was really important for just coming together with my family more than anything.
00:50 And just being together with them and having that type of time away from whatever we were all doing.
00:56 With my dad at work or school or whatever it was.
01:00 And when I look at it now and obviously I'm a bit further apart from my dad and my brother.
01:05 So I completed my PGA Foundation degree which is the Professional Golfers Association.
01:10 And during the three years of that process it just helped me specialize a little bit more
01:15 and understand it within the golf business side of things.
01:18 So retail and not just in terms of golf retail but actually the golf business side of things as well as within my coaching.
01:24 How to best improve people whether that be from juniors right up to elite golfers.
01:31 And within that as well just the sports science side of it as well.
01:34 That really helped improve me in such a short period of time.
01:38 And really helped me get to a position where I'm comfortable enough now to run my own business and coaching.
01:44 Taking over the golf shop here I knew was going to be a little bit of a challenge of running my own business.
01:49 Something I haven't done before.
01:51 But it was an opportunity I felt I best at least give it a go.
01:56 And obviously the more conversations we had and the first time I came up here I started to feel a bit more comfortable about it.
02:01 I think that's just more in terms of just the team that's been back there.
02:05 Made it really easy for me just to get set up here.
02:08 But it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down at 23.
02:11 We had a number of applicants.
02:13 Nikita was enthusiastic.
02:17 He had the right mentality.
02:21 Very brave and ambitious in coming up to a new city.
02:26 Not knowing anyone.
02:29 Starting a new company on his own.
02:31 Great personality.
02:34 Young, enthusiastic.
02:36 Has certainly had a good feedback for his coaching.
02:41 Nikita's role as far as the club goes is that he is his own business.
02:49 Running the pro shop.
02:50 Assisting with the club and promoting the club.
02:55 He's the face of the club if you like.
02:58 As far as visitors go, members go.
03:01 He's stepping into it very young.
03:06 This would usually be a role that he would take on as self-employed quite further on
03:14 in your career in golf.
03:16 Which is very admirable that he's doing it so early.
03:20 He's ahead of his time as far as that goes and as far as taking on his own business goes.
