00:00 But a seismic decision in the NCAA landscape comes down this morning.
00:08 Press conference yesterday with Charlie Baker and the Power 5 commissioners.
00:14 The NCAA and its leagues are planning to move forward with a multi-billion dollar agreement
00:18 to settle three pending federal antitrust cases, according to ESPN.
00:22 It's reported by Pete Thamel and Dan Murphy.
00:27 And this, there's a lot to sift through and it could take an hour just to go through all
00:32 of this, but high level, this will settle the three antitrust cases.
00:36 House versus the NCAA, Hubbard versus the NCAA, and Carter versus the NCAA.
00:41 And I will talk about this at length with Darren Heitner on Inside the Transfer Portal
00:45 throughout the weekend.
00:46 But bottom line is, all Division 1 athletes dating back to 2016 are eligible to receive
00:52 a share as part of these settlement cases.
00:56 And moving forward, there will be effectively a revenue share of the revenue that's coming
01:01 into the schools.
01:02 And schools will be allowed to pay up to $20 million a year per school.
01:08 For the schools at the top end paying $20 million, they'll obviously have an advantage
01:11 over the schools that can't afford to pay that much or frankly don't have that much
01:14 revenue coming in.
01:15 But it remains the haves and the have-nots.
01:18 But safe to say, a massive story.
01:21 Details will continue to unfold.
01:23 There will be shockwaves sent throughout the NCAA and it will create changes amongst the
01:27 NCAA.
01:28 Cutting of sports.
01:29 There will be a lot of different ways in which this will get impacted and we'll follow this
01:35 story as it continues to morph and evolve over the next few weeks.
01:40 The payments will be made over the course of the next few months and the revenue shares
01:45 will start at the beginning of the 2025 athletic season.
01:49 So let's move on to the NBA.
01:51 We had a big game last night where Boston went to a 2-0 lead over the Pacers.
01:57 They win that game 126-110.
01:59 Jalen Brown, another massive performance.
02:02 Career high for him are 40 points along with five rebounds and two assists.
02:05 Jason Tatum chimes in with 23 points, six rebounds and five assists.
02:09 And Derek White, a fantastic game for him.
02:12 Chipping in 23 points as the Celts take a 2-0 commanding lead.
02:17 But as Jason Tatum mentioned in this upcoming clip, the Knicks had a 2-0 lead on the Pacers
02:23 as well.
02:24 Jason, how pleased are you to get out of here, up two games to none, heading to Indy for
02:29 game three?
02:30 What you guys were able to accomplish here?
02:32 Yeah, I mean winning is hard.
02:34 Winning the playoffs is tough.
02:36 It never goes, I guess, how you expect it to.
02:42 Each game is different in its own right.
02:46 It did feel good to finally win a game, too, especially at home.
02:51 But we understand that New York was up 2-0 and ended up losing that series.
02:57 Far from relaxed, but you take a win whenever you get it.
03:01 Jason, how important is Jalen's voice?
03:03 Obviously, his play has been big, but his voice, becoming more vocal.
03:07 I know in one of the games you struggled early in the playoffs.
03:09 It was like Jason found his rhythm.
03:11 We've got to see him find his rhythm even more.
03:13 Has he been in your ear for a lot of this playoff run, motivating you and pushing you?
03:17 What's his voice been like for you and the team?
03:20 Yeah, I think it's important for every guy in that locker room to speak up.
03:25 We all respect each other.
03:28 That comes from trust.
03:30 We see the work that everybody puts in every single day and the growth from whenever your
03:35 first year here was until now, the growth and development of every single guy.
03:41 We have that environment where everybody has a voice from the top guy to the last man on
03:48 the bench.
03:49 We're all in this together.
03:51 You need to encourage somebody to do so.
03:53 If you see something that we're doing wrong, it's your job to speak up.
04:00 So good stuff there from Jason Tatum.
04:02 Jalen Brown, obviously having a massive impact on this series, on the postseason, and on
04:07 the NBA season as a whole.
04:09 I think we'll talk about this a little bit later in the show with Coach James Young,
04:13 our lead basketball analyst.
04:14 But sometimes we take for granted what the star, the star in Jason Tatum will do.
04:20 But it's oftentimes the number two player like Jalen Brown that can impact who wins
04:24 an NBA title.
04:25 And Jalen Brown clearly putting them on the right path.
04:28 Pascal Siakam now talking about the Pacers' defense.
04:32 Their offense is talked about much and what their pace looks like and how many points
04:36 they can put up.
04:37 He talks about their defense right here and how they can step up.
04:41 I think our defense got a lot better.
04:45 And I think obviously for me coming in at that time of the year, I can see the progress
04:49 that the team has made in everyone, the commitment from the coaches, from the players.
04:55 And we're here for a reason.
05:00 We're here because we did all the right things and we continue to do the right things.
05:05 And I'm proud of our guys.
05:06 You know, like obviously Drew, a big part of our defense, Aaron, Ty, like making efforts.
05:11 Miles, like just go down the line.
05:13 You know, guys are getting better.
05:16 And that's the reason why we're here.
05:18 And we're going to continue to get better.
05:19 Obviously tonight it wasn't the game that we wanted to be, but we rectified for the
05:23 next game.
05:24 I would say it'll have to be a lot better if the Celts are going to drop 126 points
05:31 and put themselves in a position to go up to all the Pacers are going to have to be
05:36 better defensively as well as continuing to drop as many points as they possibly can and
05:41 utilizing that pace.
05:42 So Tyrese Halliburton obviously exited the game early due to a sore left hamstring last
05:47 night.
05:48 He left in the third quarter and Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said he aggravated that injury
05:53 that he suffered earlier in the season.
05:56 Now that's a problem because Halliburton missed quite a bit of time during the year and it
06:02 impacted his play when he came back from that injury.
06:05 So hopefully he's good to go.
06:07 I don't feel great about it right now, but he's got a day to rest up before they play
06:13 tomorrow night.
06:14 Indiana obviously trails 2-0 and the game is tomorrow in Indianapolis.
06:18 Another NBA story, Josh Giddey.
06:20 NBA closes its investigation into Josh Giddey.
06:23 He was, there were allegations, police previously determined they wouldn't pursue any charges,
06:28 but there were allegations surrounding an inappropriate relationship with an underage
06:32 girl.
06:33 They surfaced on social media in late November, but Giddey cleared from any wrongdoing by
06:39 the police and cleared from any further sanctions by the NBA, at least as we know today.
06:45 Moving on to the WNBA, the Indiana Fever looking to secure their first win of the season versus
06:50 the Los Angeles Sparks.
06:52 They lost to Seattle Storm on Wednesday.
06:54 Divallo 0-5, they lost 85-83.
06:58 Number one overall pick, Kaitlin Clark and the Fever are hoping to get on the winning
07:01 side of the ledger tonight.
07:04 Staying with basketball, Duke and Kansas will face off in November in Las Vegas.
07:08 Two of the most storied programs obviously in college basketball history.
07:12 Nine national championships, 32 Final Four appearances between them.
07:17 They will tip it off in Las Vegas.
07:19 So that'll be a fun one for anybody that wants to travel out there.
07:22 I appreciate that college basketball has done this over the years, trying to inject some
07:27 juice into the early part of the season, which is often swallowed up by the NFL and even
07:32 college football.
07:33 So we'll see if Duke and Kansas can move the needle when it comes to Vegas in November.
07:39 On to the ice, the Edmonton Oilers defeat the Dallas Stars in game one of the Western
07:44 Conference Finals.
07:45 Final score was 3-2, so the Oilers get off to a good start there.
07:50 Connor McDavid and the Oilers trying to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first
07:55 time in quite a while.
07:57 Last thing on Scotty Scheffler, I don't think, I don't know how much this story will remain
08:02 a part of the news with Scotty Scheffler, but the Louisville Metro Police Department
08:07 has taken corrective action against a police officer, Detective Gillis, who arrested Scotty
08:14 Scheffler because he did not have his body cam turned on.
08:18 So Detective Gillis, this is a quote, "Detective Gillis did not have his body-worn camera operationally
08:23 ready as required by our policy," Chief Jacqueline Gwynne Villareal announced on Thursday.
08:30 Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said there's no video available of Gillis' initial interaction
08:35 with Scheffler.
08:36 I think that's going to obviously hurt Louisville's case if there ever was one.
08:39 So Scotty Scheffler cleared right there.
08:42 Phillies are on fire.
08:43 We're going to talk about that with Matt Lutovsky next.
08:46 In addition to Matt Lutovsky, we'll have Jim Gazzale later in the show, and as I said,
08:51 Coach Young to go over the NBA playoffs.
08:55 (upbeat music)
