00:18 Oh, your rehearsals just ended?
00:23 Here, I ordered some food for you.
00:28 Eat first.
00:30 Here, we got sandwich, juice, cheers.
00:35 Despite all of this, Jasmine managed to pass all of these and be part of the LA,
00:42 where Jasmine felt the intense pressure.
00:46 Because all of her teammates here are not good.
00:50 But in the end, Jasmine was chosen as one of the top 12 finalists
00:57 because of her talent in singing and her unique personality.
01:02 At the age of 16, she was one of the youngest finalists.
01:08 She was slowly getting closer to her dream.
01:13 Until…
01:15 You're saying you'll be the next American Idol.
01:19 Jasmine, why aren't you preparing?
01:25 You're going to let Mr. Elton sleep there.
01:28 Get up.
01:30 Daddy, I don't feel good.
01:33 I'll just go to the bathroom.
01:36 [music]
01:44 How can you sing?
01:47 Get up. We'll see a doctor. Get up.
01:53 [music]
02:03 Laryngitis, tonsillitis, and a sore throat.
02:07 So, she can't sing. She has to practice by tomorrow.
02:12 She shouldn't even be speaking.
02:15 Can you give something, at least to relieve it? Anything? A prescription?
02:22 I can write her a prescription, but she shouldn't be talking for the whole day.
02:26 Okay.
02:28 So that means she'll be able to sing for tomorrow's competition?
02:33 Even if she does get better, I don't think she'll be in the condition to be able to sing.
02:39 I'm very sorry.
02:41 [music]
02:46 You know Jasmine, you have millions of viewers. You might be embarrassed.
02:53 You know what? I'll call up the producers and explain it to them.
02:56 I'm sure they'll understand the situation.
02:59 Daddy, no. The show must go on.
03:03 I didn't come here to give up.
03:07 The audience is already watching me. Let's go home. I need to rest.
03:14 Okay. Don't talk anymore.
03:17 What's that, Doctor?
03:19 Despite her bad mood and lack of practice, Jasmine still had the courage to compete.
03:27 But because of her illness, her performance wasn't good.
03:33 I think these are the best songs for you, but you were a little pitchy.
03:37 And what happens is that sometimes when you go for those high notes, you hit just underneath them.
03:43 Okay.
03:44 You fall a little bit off pitch. And I really love when you color it up more.
03:48 You're not doing enough to win. You're not. You're not, Jasmine.
03:53 Why are you sad?
03:55 Dad, I don't think I can advance to the next level of Final 3.
04:07 I might be eliminated next week.
04:11 You can never say.
04:13 But if that happens, what's important is that we know that you did your best.
04:23 Whether you're an American Idol or not, we still love you and your mom.
04:28 We're your number one fan.
04:31 And you make us very, very proud.
04:34 Very proud.
04:35 Jasmine's hope for the next round was almost gone because of her illness.
04:46 But that same night, her fans called her to ask her to stay on the show.
04:54 Because of her fans' support, Jasmine made it to the Top 3.
05:02 Leaving us tonight on American Idol is Jasmine Trias.
05:09 A great honor for a Filipino like her to be known all over the world.
05:14 The talent and talent of Filipinos in the field of singing.
05:18 Because of her success, she was known all over the world.
05:36 Especially here in the Philippines, her hometown was visited.
05:41 That's why, on her first trip to the Philippines, our countrymen were very warm to her.
05:49 Wherever I go in the world, I will always be a Filipino.
05:53 Forever.
05:55 [Music]
06:11 Wherever I go in the world, I will always be a Filipino.
06:16 Forever.
06:19 [Music]

08:01 So Jasmine, did you ever think that you'd become as popular as you are now?
08:05 No, I never thought I'd become even as close to as popular as I am right now.
08:10 When did that start, that you wanted to be a singer?
08:13 Since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to sing.
08:16 Singing and music was my biggest passion.
08:18 And I'd always enter in competitions, talent contests.
08:22 Was it hard to decide to join American Idol?
08:25 No.
08:26 Or right away, you thought, "I'll join."
08:27 Exactly.
08:28 Right away, you said, "I want to do that."
08:30 There was about 3,000 people waiting in line.
08:33 I camped out for two days.
08:35 Really? And how many were to be chosen from among the 3,000?
08:38 Eight.
08:39 Eight only from 3,000?
08:41 How did you prepare for that?
08:42 I tried to get a lot of rest, drink lots of water, practice my songs, vocalize a lot.
08:48 How did that feel, auditioning with so many competitors?
08:54 It was pretty intimidating.
08:55 I was 16 at the time, so still in high school.
08:58 I was a very quiet person, very shy, very much to myself.
09:02 I would always be focusing on school.
09:04 But seeing all that competition, seeing all the other great talent and older people,
09:09 it intimidated me a little bit.
09:11 Was there any point during the competition where you thought you would not win at all?
09:19 Oh yeah, there was a lot of times where I would lose hope.
09:23 But with the support of my family, and knowing that I had the support from Hawaii,
09:26 from the Philippines, and from all of the Filipinos all over the world,
09:30 it really motivated me to keep on going and to keep on pushing forward.
09:35 Was there ever a point there that you thought you would be number one?
09:40 Yeah, of course.
09:42 When was this?
09:44 I believe it was my very first time on that stage, top 12, when I sang "Inseparable."
09:51 When I made it to top 12, I was so, so happy.
09:54 Just to be on that stage and to feel that kind of emotion,
10:00 the judges in front of you, the cameras there,
10:03 that's when I really realized my potential.
10:06 I was like, you know, I can really do this.
10:09 What is your ultimate ambition?
10:12 To be the biggest international superstar, to represent for the Philippines everywhere I go.
10:20 There's not that much representation of the Filipinos mainstream in the U.S.,
10:23 whether it be singing, acting, so I really want to get out there and do that.
10:28 How will you be able to penetrate the mainstream in America?
10:32 Well, I'm going to keep on doing shows, I'm going to keep on putting myself out there,
10:38 and to keep on making songs on my album, you know, promote the album,
10:42 to do as much as I can just to work hard and to keep focused on this career,
10:48 and to keep it going.
10:50 Do you have an American agent now?
10:52 Yes, I do.
10:54 Oh, you do?
10:55 Well, she's Filipino also. She lives in Los Angeles.
10:57 But yeah, she is managing me at this point, and she's been doing a very good job.
11:03 You've stopped schooling since American Idol.
11:06 Yes, I do want to go back to college.
11:09 I graduated from high school, after that, you know, this whole career kind of took off.
11:15 What do you want to take up in college?
11:17 I want to take up business management.
11:19 Why that?
11:20 Because it works, it ties in with what I'm doing right now.
11:23 If for instance, you can't choose, you would only have a choice, one choice,
11:28 between school and career, what would it be?
11:31 Career.
11:32 Career. I knew it would be career.
11:33 What about your personal life? Do you have a boyfriend? Do you go out?
11:38 Do you ever go out?
11:39 Yes, I do.
11:40 Do you enjoy, gimmick, as they call it here?
11:42 I try to.
11:43 This past Christmas, I got some time off to spend with my family and my friends.
11:47 And a lot of my friends from college came back home to visit their family as well.
11:51 So all of us got to reunite and we got to hang out again.
11:55 So yes, I do spend time with my friends and family whenever I can.
11:59 But no boyfriend right now.
12:01 What do you want to be when you grow up?
12:03 My career is number one right now.
12:05 You can have a boyfriend in your career.
12:07 You can have a boyfriend.
12:10 They're two big commitments and my biggest commitment right now is my career.
12:14 I don't want any distractions. I'm just so focused on it.
12:17 You're 19 now.
12:19 At what age do you want to start your personal life?
12:23 Well, I do have a personal life right now, but if I want to start dating or have a boyfriend, that kind of thing,
12:29 that probably won't start until I feel that my career is there.
12:35 Until I establish myself as a Filipino superstar in the U.S.
12:41 Until I complete my dream.
12:43 Until I accomplish that dream, that can happen.
12:46 Do you want to be Filipino or American?
12:49 I don't really have a preference.
12:51 Really?
12:53 It depends on the person.
12:55 Someone that's very caring, very thoughtful, very sweet.
12:58 Someone that will take care of my kids later in life.
13:02 And understand your career.
13:04 Yes, and understand what I do.
13:05 He really has to understand what I do at first because it is a tough business to understand sometimes.
13:10 I just want to go back to the time when you auditioned.
13:13 Did you prepare a song?
13:15 Did you prepare a song?
13:17 Yes.
13:19 My favorite song of all time is "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston.
13:23 That was my number one audition song on American Idol.
13:26 I sang that throughout all the stages of American Idol until I got to TV.
13:33 Can you sing a little bit?
13:34 Do you know Tagalog?
13:41 The song off of my album, "Kung Paano" by Benny Saturno.
13:45 Oh really?
13:47 It's a very beautiful song.
13:48 Okay.
13:49 [Singing]
14:10 It's beautiful.
14:12 But it's true, Jasmine.
14:16 In a short time, you have a lot of fans here in the Philippines.
14:19 I know. I really can't believe it.
14:21 And I'm so grateful for that, to be receiving all the support.
14:24 And that is exactly what keeps me motivated and keeps my hopes high for the future.
14:29 Would you like to talk to your fans?
14:31 Yes. I just want to say, thank you very much to everyone.
14:35 For all the support, for all the love.
14:38 It really means the world to me.
14:41 I'm going to keep on going and keep on representing for all of you until my huge dream comes true.
14:46 And your family.
14:48 Thank you so much for the unconditional love and support.
14:51 You guys have been there since the beginning and I love you guys to death.
14:55 I don't know what I'd do without you.
14:57 But I want to say thank you so much for understanding what I do and for supporting me all the way.
