00:25 You can unlock Torrent, Spectral Steed, by visiting three Sites of Grace.
00:28 These are the glowing bonfire-like checkpoints in Elden Ring.
00:31 Most players will unlock Torrent once they hit the Site of Grace at the Gatefront Ruins,
00:35 but this is mainly a coincidence because of where you're directed in the first few hours.

00:42 and after resting at the third one, you'll be visited by an NPC called Melina.

00:49 she will then give you an item called the Spectral Steed Whistle,

01:03 With the Whistle equipped, press X or Square to use it
01:06 and instantly summon or de-summon Torrent the Horse beneath you.

01:16 while slightly limiting what you can do while you're on it.
01:18 You can switch to a Gallop and Double Jump,
01:20 making it great for clearing obstacles or getting past enemies you don't want to fight,

01:26 However, being a large, fast-moving horse... thing
01:28 means that Torrent is more unwieldy and less precise in its movements,
01:32 so you'll find yourself riding in wide circles
01:34 and having to perform strafing runs to attack your enemies.
01:37 Players also can't use weapons, skills, block or other behaviours while mounted,
01:41 although you can still attack with the shoulder buttons
01:43 directing light and heavy attacks on the left and right sides respectively.
01:46 It's worth noting that Torrent is not immortal
01:48 and can be killed both by enemy attacks and extreme fall damage,
01:52 although you can heal it by feeding them food items.
01:54 If it is killed, Torrent will fade out of existence
01:56 but can instantly be summoned again using the whistle.
