The sights and sounds as the 2024 Greater Manchester run got under way.

00:55 Yeah, big responsibility on their shoulders,
00:58 guiding our runners around, getting them home

01:03 So as Brian says, huge shout out to them.

01:08 seeing the amount of charities being represented already
01:13 here today.

01:24 And of course, with every charity t-shirt we see,
01:26 that's money raised.
01:28 That's awareness being raised.
01:30 And that is someone running for causes.

02:56 You cannot imagine, can you, Gemma, some of the stories
02:59 behind these runs, the charities, the good causes,
03:05 the reasons that have got people supporting them
03:09 and taking part in this half marathon.
03:13 Absolutely.
03:14 And just one of many, Helen Reber,
03:17 female Guinness World Record holder
03:19 for running the most consecutive half marathons.
03:23 She hit 111 back in 2021.
03:27 And she's aiming for 1,000 consecutive half marathons
03:31 by January 2025.
03:34 That's incredible.
03:35 She's out there on the course.
03:36 Look out for her.

03:39 We also want to see a shout out to the Muslim Alliance
03:43 for inspiring Muslims to run.
03:45 Part of the active inclusive network, Zawar, Kansas,

04:04 We've got Amelia Thompson out there on the course today
04:07 taking on her half marathon.
04:09 19 years old.
04:11 Amelia is a Manchester terrorist attack survivor.
04:15 And she's running for Liv's Trust in memory
04:17 of Olivia Campbell Hardy.
04:20 Running helps Amelia overcome what happens
04:23 and to find a positive out of something
04:26 that was so negative for her.
04:28 So Amelia, we see you.
04:30 We know you're out there.
04:32 We support you.
04:33 And we welcome you to the start line today.
04:36 And also a big shout to Herman and the Made Running
04:40 Inclusive Running Club of Manchester.
04:42 Started off with seven members.
04:44 They now got 1,000.
04:46 And there are 50 all-new major runners
04:49 taking part in the half marathon.
04:51 And look out for their cheers all out along the course.
04:55 We are so proud of this event, which
05:03 has grown out of Manchester's Commonwealth Games,
05:07 a living legacy of amazing sporting events.
05:12 And here's where we are in 2024 with close to 30,000 people
05:19 across the globe taking part in this AJ Bell Great Manchester
05:24 Run.
05:25 And a big shout out to our party partners, AJ Bell.
05:33 You can hear those bells ringing.
05:35 From down there in the crowd up here on the starting podium,
05:38 I'm here with our AJ Bell mascot here,
05:42 waving our runners over that start line.

05:47 And the iconic red that you can see throughout the course.

07:36 You're not fair weather runners either.
07:38 There's drizzle, there's rain, and you're out there regardless.

07:43 And it's something to be respected and celebrated
07:45 here in Manchester.
