00:00The Department of Foreign Affairs is protesting the fishing ban of China in the South China Sea
00:06because it violates international law.
00:08The Filipino fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc are also arguing that they will not be subject to the fishing ban of China.
00:15Here is the first news, Chino Gaston.
00:21The DFA protested vigorously because of the four-month fishing moratorium
00:27that China is imposing on the exclusive economic zone of the country.
00:33In a statement, the DFA said that based on the 2016 Arbitral Award,
00:37the declaration of the fishing moratorium by China is considered a violation of the United Nations Convention on the Laws of the Sea.
00:44The Philippines is the only country that has sovereign rights to all living resources,
00:48such as fish, within its own EEZ.
00:52The fishing ban of China covers the entire South China Sea from 12 degrees latitude
00:58or from the upper reaches of the Reed Bank to mainland China.
01:02Bajo de Masinloc-Oscar Borosol is included in the fishing ban,
01:05which is considered a traditional fishing ground for Filipinos and other countries.
01:12The Filipino fishermen will not be subject to the fishing ban of China,
01:16but they are still afraid because of the recent news that China is arresting those entering their so-called territory.
01:35If China continues to impose a ban on fishing,
01:39it could be based on a new complaint against China under the UNCLOS.
01:46If they force it, then that will be again an imposition and it will be contrary to the 2016 South China Sea Arbitration then.
01:56It can actually be a source of another case against them.
02:00Just in case, it can be deployed there.
02:02Our fishermen should be given support.
02:09The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources encouraged the fishermen who still went abroad.
02:15It said that only Filipinos have the right to impose any conditions on their EEZ.
02:20Our advice to our fishermen is that no one can stop them because the water supply of the Philippines is limited.
02:32And of course the presence. You will maintain the presence.
02:35The presence, yes.
02:36As you can see, we are following the mission so that we can establish the presence in the West Philippine Sea
02:47and our fishermen can feel the presence of the government.
02:51The Chinese Embassy is trying to get a statement.
02:54This is the first news.
02:56Chino Gaston for GMA Integrated News.
03:06See you next time on GMA Pinoy TV and www.gmanews.tv.
