00:03 - Interesting because I actually don't know where,
00:05 I should just look this up for the podcast,
00:06 but I don't know where Davis is from,
00:08 but I know he went to the University of Alabama.
00:10 So I assume that you have some--
00:11 - Yes, from Hattiesburg.
00:13 - So from Mississippi, interesting.
00:15 So did you, where was he in relation to you
00:18 in terms of like age and junior events and things like that?
00:21 Like what do you know about Davis's background
00:23 and obviously played at Bama, played in the SEC,
00:25 like just, you know, where he is now.
00:27 Obviously he's super talented player,
00:29 but you know, what, do you have any sort of color
00:32 on Davis's background and how he gets to this point,
00:34 the first time winner on PGA Tour?
00:36 - Yeah, he's a younger guy.
00:38 He's very, very good.
00:42 He won at every single level.
00:44 He was dominant as a junior, dominant as an amateur.
00:47 Didn't take him long to get to the PGA Tour.
00:51 He's got the picturesque golf swing.
00:54 He's the type of guy that when you look at his game,
00:58 you're like, man, why isn't he like one more?
01:00 You know, it seems like he hasn't gotten enough
01:04 out of how good he is.
01:05 And there's been plenty of players kind of similar to that
01:09 that are just so pure.
01:10 You're like, what, like what is missing?
01:12 I think with Davis, it's been a bit of trying
01:17 to be too perfect and then trying to find
01:19 the secret formula of being perfect.
01:22 Whether, and this has been going on for a long time,
01:25 like just changing coaches quite often.
01:29 He was no stranger to just pulling the rip cord
01:33 when he sees a coach, which as we've seen with Victor,
01:39 you know, you've got to go on these streaky,
01:42 go on these streaks a bit.
01:44 And Davis has been, I feel like,
01:46 on a pretty sour streak for quite some time.
01:49 And then as in the last month or so,
01:52 has really started to kicking around
01:53 and starting to hit the golf ball.
01:55 Like we expect Davis Riley too.
01:57 And if you haven't gone and watched Davis Riley's
02:01 golf swing, or if you haven't seen him play enough,
02:03 I'm sure you did if you didn't catch Charles Schwab.
02:06 But he's back now working with a coach
02:09 who I feel like he had the most success with,
02:11 which is Jeff Smith.
02:12 A guy that's coached plenty of great tour players,
02:15 tour winners.
02:17 And man, it's crazy that when guys go back to a coach
02:23 that they've had success with,
02:26 and immediately start to get it going again.
02:29 It's the language, it's the communication,
02:31 it's just having just the ability
02:35 to kind of knock away the fluff.
02:38 It's like, hey, I know how,
02:40 like this is how I'm gonna coach.
02:42 This is how I'm gonna play.
02:44 Like, you know what I want to hear,
02:46 and you know how I don't want it to be said.
02:50 And I think that has everything to do with
02:51 when a player immediately goes back
02:53 and starts having success like Davis.
02:56 I mean, stats this week are off the charts.
02:58 So it's really good to see,
03:01 especially winning in Zurich,
03:04 it almost feels like it doesn't even count
03:06 if you add another guy, right?
03:08 'Cause like who played better?
03:09 We don't know.
03:10 They could have just ham and egged it really well.
03:12 But playing with Scottie Schauffer in that final group
03:15 and getting it done, pretty dang good.
