Olympic hero Fatima Whitbread supports Foster Care Fortnight
Transcript
00:00 I spent my first 14 years in children's homes, I know what it's like and it's so
00:04 important that we have some really good loving caring families coming forward.
00:09 Open their hearts, their homes and give a child a loving secure lifeline because at the end of the day every child deserves a safe and happy childhood.
00:20 We want to be able to give those children in the care system the opportunity like everybody else does with their conventional families.
00:28 Helping them, guide them, giving stability, security, the love and support that they so deserve.
00:36 It really gave me hope that from nothing you can become something amazing.
00:42 I think it gave the kids a good bit of hope as well that they can start out nowhere and be told that they're going to achieve nothing and achieve amazing things.
00:51 It's amazing to be here as part of Foster Care Fortnight. The impact that foster carers have on children and young people can be absolutely life-changing.
01:01 We've heard really consistently from children and young people who are care experienced about the importance of foster care and the importance of involving children, young people and foster carers in the decision making process with regards to young people's transitions and their placements.
01:20 Today we're here in the Stormont Pavilion to mark the end of Fostering Fortnight. It's been a fabulous fortnight with lots and lots of activity promoting fostering and advertising just how wonderful a job our foster carers do throughout the year.
