00:00 Now let's just take a second to admire the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650.
00:09 This is the bobber style motorcycle from the Indian brand and let's go check out what we
00:16 get on this motorcycle and why it stands out in its category.
00:20 Welcome to Drivespark, my name is Vedant Johari and let's jump right into this video.
00:24 So we've had the Shotgun 650 for quite some time and in this video, I'll be telling you
00:38 about the pros, the cons and what this bike has to offer you guys.
00:43 So starting off with the pros of the Shotgun 650, the quality of this motorcycle is top
00:49 notch, it's beyond comparable.
00:52 Everything from our switch gears to our handlebars, front headlight cowl, to everything you see
00:58 on the motorcycle is brilliant.
01:00 You don't hear rattling, you don't feel any body panels moving around, everything is in
01:05 place just like it has to be.
01:07 So coming to the engine, well in this city, the low-end and mid-range grunt that we get
01:12 from the engine is brilliant.
01:14 It's just about manageable, it's not a crazy amount of power coming in, though you might
01:19 think it's a 650cc engine, but no, you can still ride it very easily in the city, you
01:24 can maintain your 40-50 km/hr with ease.
01:27 You won't feel any knocking from the engine, you won't hear any knocking from the engine,
01:32 it's a bliss to ride.
01:34 However, now coming to the highways, that's where the bike lacks.
01:38 Coming to the cons at the end of the video, so stay tuned and check that out.
01:41 Coming to the design of the Shotgun, this is one more place where the bike excels.
01:48 It looks beautiful and on the roads, it's a serious eye-catcher.
01:52 While we were riding, people were turning their heads, asking us which bike this is
01:56 and for good reason that too.
01:58 Now starting off with the front end of the motorcycles, we have this really beautifully
02:03 designed headlight, a very classic style headlight and a two-piece headlight.
02:07 It's divided into two and right in the centre, we get the Royal Enfield logo.
02:11 Now the headlights that we get are LED headlights, however, the indicators, though they may look
02:17 the same classic style, the indicators are tungsten.
02:20 We also get Showa USD forks and 18-inch tyres.
02:23 Now moving on towards the side view of the motorcycle.
02:28 Now this is where I feel you really get the charm and the charisma of the Shotgun 650.
02:34 Now we have this beautiful dual-tone colour that really brings out the whole aesthetic
02:38 of a bobber motorcycle.
02:40 We get the Royal Enfield badging located right in the centre of the tank, we get a classic
02:44 style fuel cap, we get the Royal Enfield logo on the side and we get the number 1 written
02:50 on the tank as well.
02:52 Coming to the side panels, we get the twin 650 Shotgun written right there, stating the
02:59 name of the motorcycle and we get the Royal Enfield badging right here.
03:04 Now, black and white dual-tone finish with these light inputs of red, really, really
03:08 enhance the motorcycle's looks and appeal.
03:12 So looking at the motorcycle from the side, we get a twin seat setup.
03:15 However, you and I have normally seen bobbers in a single seat setup.
03:19 So Royal Enfield has not missed that out.
03:21 If you want a single seat setup, all you need to do is remove your key, put it into the
03:26 key slot on your rear seat, twist and pull out your rear seat and there you go, you have
03:31 a single floating seat on the Shotgun 650.
03:34 Now once you remove the rear seat from the Shotgun 650, we can use this space as a luggage
03:40 carrier or to store whatever items we have with us.
03:44 Now this is done for added convenience.
03:47 Now coming to the rear, we get twin exhausts, twin shocks.
03:52 Now the shocks that we get at the rear are air shocks and these are five-step adjustable.
03:58 However, it's only preload adjustable, but still it can really enhance your ride quality.
04:03 Now coming to the complete rear of the motorcycle, looking at it, we get a very, very old-fashioned
04:08 style look at the back with a single brake light and two indicators, just like we get
04:15 in the front.
04:16 Now all the lighting we get at the rear from our brake lights to our indicators are all
04:20 Thompson, these are not LED lights.
04:23 So now coming to the display on the Shotgun 650, well, we get two displays and our main
04:28 cluster is what shows us our speed, the time, fuel, fuel levels, temperature levels, all
04:34 of that.
04:35 Now that display is a semi-digital display, meaning we have an analogue reading, which
04:39 is our speed and everything else that shows is a digital reading.
04:43 Now the other display that we have is a small round cluster located right next to the main
04:48 cluster.
04:49 Now that small cluster is called a tripper pod as Royal Enfield says.
04:53 So from that cluster, we can see our turn-by-turn navigation through the Royal Enfield app.
04:57 Royal Enfield tripper pod is powered by Google Maps.
05:00 However, there is a slight lag on the readings.
05:02 So if it shows you there's a right turn coming up in 100 metres, once you take that right
05:07 turn, it'll still show you there's a right turn up ahead for another 50 metres.
05:11 Only after that, will it read, will it sense that you've taken the right turn and then
05:15 it'll show you the following directions from there.
05:17 So now coming to the engine performance and the engine figures of the Shotgun 650.
05:28 Well, it comes with a 648cc air-cooled engine that produces 46bhp and 52Nm of torque.
05:36 Now this 46bhp does not come in at once.
05:40 The power is very linear, it's very comfortable to ride and it's just super, super easy on
05:47 the throttle.
05:48 Even if you whack open the throttle, it doesn't spin the rear wheels nor does it make you
05:51 feel unsafe.
05:52 The whole engine configuration and everything is perfect for city use.
05:56 Now coming for the seating position on the Shotgun 650.
06:00 I am 6'1" and keeping the bike off the side stand, as you can see, I'm very, very comfortable
06:08 on the motorcycle.
06:09 Seat height of this is 795mm and the ground clearance that we get is 140mm.
06:14 Now for a bobber style motorcycle, you can't expect a lot of ground clearance because of
06:18 the design of the motorcycle.
06:19 However, the seat height I feel is a little higher set for a bobber, but again, for comfort
06:25 and for city use, just for the reason why Roy Enfield launched the bike, I feel the
06:28 seat height is perfect.
06:29 Now coming to the rider's triangle of the motorcycle, it's a typical bobber style.
06:35 The handlebars aren't too high set like a cruiser, it's almost in line with everything.
06:39 I am sitting upright but slightly leaned forward as you can see.
06:43 I'm not laid back nor am I straight, I'm a little aggressively set.
06:47 So now comparing the seating position of the Shotgun 650 to the Super Meteor 650.
06:52 The Super Meteor, we get a little higher handlebars and our seat height feels a little lower.
06:57 Now for the footpegs, on the Shotgun 650, we get neutral set footpegs.
07:01 However, on the Super Meteor 650, as it's a cruiser style motorcycle, we get front set
07:06 footpegs.
07:07 So now coming to the cons of the Shotgun 650.
07:09 First off, I'd say is the cornering ability of the motorcycle.
07:14 The footpegs are way too low and the exhaust is also way too low.
07:19 Even the header that we get in the front, everything is just too low set.
07:24 The moment you try and aggressively corner, you're either scraping the front of your exhaust,
07:29 your footpegs or even your exhaust pipe.
07:32 That is something I feel Royal Enfield could have really worked on.
07:35 Now what else can be improved on this?
07:38 The top end speed and the top end power that we get.
07:42 It is a 650cc motorcycle, so there are some expectations from you and I.
07:46 However, the power that we get once we cross a certain RPM and once we cross a certain
07:52 speed, really really drops.
07:55 Now that does get really dissatisfying, especially when you're on the highways as the moment
08:00 you get a free stretch and you really want to open out the throttle, the bike will not
08:05 take it.
08:06 It will go up till around 140 and then after that, the power just drops.
08:11 It takes forever to climb, but again, giving Royal Enfield the benefit of the doubt, this
08:18 is a Bob Worstel motorcycle, so we can't expect a lot of top end speed.
08:23 A massive reason why we don't get top end speed on this is because of the way it's designed
08:28 and the weight.
08:30 Now, the Interceptor for example, weighs 218kg.
08:34 The Shotgun 650 on the other hand, weighs 240kg.
08:38 So we're 22kg heavier on this motorcycle and plus it's much less aerodynamic than the
08:44 Interceptor or other models excluding the Super Meteor R.
08:48 Now coming to the final con on the motorcycle, the braking.
08:54 That is something that this motorcycle really lacks in.
08:57 When you're riding fast and you need to hit the brake really hard, for example in a panic
09:02 braking situation, your ABS is 100% going to kick in.
09:06 Your brakes are going to feel like they aren't even playing a role in stopping the motorcycle.
09:13 Your front brake and rear brake, the rear brake is almost non-existent at that point.
09:18 You do get a little bit of front brake but it's nowhere near enough for when you're in
09:22 those situations.
09:23 Now, even if you're dropping gears, even if you're cutting gears, you'll only have your
09:28 engine braking at that point.
09:30 Your front and rear brakes are not going to play that big of a role.
09:34 So that is something else that could have been worked upon by Royal Enfield.
09:38 So now with this 648cc air-cooled engine that we get, do you guys want to hear the exhaust
09:44 noise?
09:45 Well I certainly do, so let's listen to how this motorcycle sounds.
09:49 So what do you think of that?
10:00 Let us know in the comments below.
10:02 All in all, this was the Royal Enfield Shotgun.
