00:06 this summer. The venue will close for essential planned maintenance work from Monday 10th
00:12 June through to Thursday 5th September. The extended dark period, the name given when
00:17 a theatre is closed, will see future-proofing improvements being made to the front of house
00:22 auditorium rigging, with surround sound and delay bars set to improve the quality of lighting
00:28 and sound that visiting companies can deliver. Other works include structural strengthening,
00:35 which will accommodate larger and heavier sets that modern shows tour with. There will
00:40 also be work made to the dress circle boxes and the lighting, decor and handrails of the
00:45 circle boxes. The Grade II listed Victorian Theatre will reopen with two weeks of comedy
00:51 and music, including performances by Mo Gilligan, Sarah Millican and Richard Carpenter.
