00:00 the season.
00:01 [Music]
00:02 DRS, we look back first on what we saw yesterday afternoon up in the Pacific Northwest.
00:08 The divisional duel for a fourth consecutive time this week between the Mariners and the
00:12 Astros.
00:13 Seattle won the first three games, hoping for a four-game sweep over Houston in the
00:18 fourth and final yesterday.
00:20 But speaking of four, the Astros score four, the Mariners score none, and Houston avoids
00:25 this sweep with their first victory of the set for nothing.
00:29 Again, Spencer Arriguetti, as you shared, very good in the game on the bump for the
00:34 Stros, and Alex Bregman, a two-run shot for Houston that got the scoring started.
00:39 Houston needs a win.
00:41 Houston needs many wins.
00:42 They entered yesterday having lost five of their last seven.
00:46 They avoid this sweep up in the Northwest.
00:48 Yeah, and it's good for them where they avoided the sweep, right, and just tried to somewhat
00:52 hang around in the ALS.
00:54 And that's really, you know, not the Houston Astros' fault that they're 25 and 32.
00:58 They shouldn't even be in playoff contention with a record like that in a normal division
01:02 to maybe win it.
01:03 You should be looking just at the wild card as maybe as a pipe dream.
01:06 But the fact that the Seattle Mariners at 31 and 27 are the best team in the ALS, that
01:11 gives Houston hope all throughout the summer that if we just get right, we have a legitimate
01:15 chance to actually win this division, when quite frankly, we should have been wiped out
01:18 of the divisional race when just a few short weeks ago, we're talking about them 12 and
01:22 13 games under 500.
01:24 And this is also a reason that I don't trust Seattle.
01:27 Teams like this.
01:28 Yes, I understand you're going for the sweep and all you can ask for a major league baseball
01:31 is to win series, not sweep series.
01:33 We understand that.
01:34 But you take a look at Spencer Arrigetti on the mound.
01:36 It's not as if you were throwing a Cy Young guy that was going to be the stopper on your
01:40 team to make sure you got a victory.
01:42 It's a pitcher that's been quite frankly below average for the season that dominated you
01:45 in your ballpark where you only had four hits and also didn't even score a run.
01:50 The Seattle Mariners to me, I just can't trust them, which is why it was maybe a week ago.
01:54 Who do you think is going to win this division?
01:55 I said the Texas Rangers because they got a lot of ammunition eventually that will
01:59 come back to that lineup.
02:00 And they're just too talented here not to be a 500 or better ballclub.
02:04 You take a look at the Mariners again.
02:06 Trust level is low for me, which also keeps the Houston Astros hang around and believing
02:11 that eventually they'll get it together.
02:14 Seattle four games above 500 again, the only team within the AOS that has a winning record.
02:20 The Rangers have won three in a row after some poor is play, including a quick two game
02:24 sweep in the World Series rematch against Arizona earlier this week in Arlington.
02:30 But the Rangers still two games below 500 27 and 29 and the Astros avoiding this week
02:35 yesterday 25 and 32.
02:38 The American League West, the American League West, those divisional odds.
02:43 We have them there.
02:44 They are minus 140 for Seattle as the divisional favorites and those front runners with a minus
02:50 money price.
02:51 Donnie, you said you're not buying into either Seattle or Houston.
02:55 Let me ask you the question like this around the Astros who are tied for the third best
03:00 price still to win the American League pennant, even being seven games below 500 at plus 750.
03:06 You saw the odds there plus 260 just five games back of those Seattle Mariners for the
03:12 top spot in the division.
03:15 Houston is also plus 112 even to see the American League postseason.
03:19 If there was a price you were going to bet on the Astros figuring things out from the
03:24 month of June on through the rest of this long summer and Major League Baseball.
03:29 What do you think would be that best bet on the Astros?
03:32 I mean, it's probably wouldn't even be to be honest, the AOS.
03:35 It would be more of looking at the pennant and you say, well, that's ludicrous, Donnie.
03:38 Why would you bet the pennant, not the division?
03:40 Well, I actually don't think technically they're the best team in this division this season.
03:44 I still think detect Rangers might have a leg up on them because they do have a couple
03:48 pictures on the DL right now that might be able to come back.
03:50 You take a look at some of those young hitters, which includes Josh Jung expected to come
03:54 back as well.
03:55 Now, having said that, the reasoning behind not winning the division is we know it's more
04:00 of a crapshoot once you get to the playoffs.
04:02 Pedigree sometimes comes into the equation where if the Astros just make the playoffs,
04:06 he had been there, done that, making deep runs.
04:08 That's what we do.
04:09 Winning world championships.
04:10 That's what we do.
04:11 So that's where the expectation comes from.
04:13 They take a bigger price point here to win that as opposed to the division, which quite
04:17 frankly, I don't think they're going to win this year.
04:20 Now, as you pointed out multiple times, you look at the standings, they're not far back.
04:24 There's still a long way to go, but I've seen enough like it isn't like Ben, you know, hey,
04:28 you know what?
04:29 It's the first couple weeks of April.
04:30 It's the first couple weeks of May.
04:32 Tomorrow will be in June already.
04:34 And we're still waiting for this team to wake up, which they played a lot of base 25 and
04:38 32.
04:39 They haven't woken up yet.
04:40 So they're going to wake up in the next 60 games and be a dominant baseball team.
04:43 I'm not so sure that.
04:44 But if they do throughout the summer, just hang around in that wildcard race, nobody's
04:48 going to look as look at the Astros if they get into the playoffs, Ben, as an easy out.
04:53 That's all.
04:54 I actually think I would look at the division price of plus 260, at least at this moment,
04:59 Houston, five and a half games back of Seattle.
05:02 They are actually even deeper back six and a half games of what a potential wildcard
05:06 spot would be like.
