00:00What were your thoughts on the match?
00:08It looked like pretty tough conditions out there
00:10and maybe a bit of doubt at times over whether you were going to come off for the rain in the second set?
00:15Yes, it was obviously a difficult match.
00:20I thought they played pretty well I think.
00:23I probably didn't have my best match,
00:27but we fought pretty hard and all credit to them.
00:32They got a bit of fortune as well and they played pretty well I must say.
00:44What did you both take out of it as an experience ahead of perhaps coming back here later in the summer?
00:51Well, who knows what's going to happen with that.
00:55I guess for both of us it was kind of an opportunity to put our names in the frame to play the Olympics.
01:07That's why it was a pretty strong doubles event this year,
01:13a lot of singles guys playing ahead of the Olympics.
01:17I think me and Dan obviously were hoping to have a good run here and it wasn't to be.
01:26I don't know if we'll get the opportunity.
01:29There's guys obviously ahead of us in the rankings and we've got good doubles players in the UK.
01:36Let's see what happens, but it was an opportunity to have a good run and it didn't happen.
01:48This is more for Dan because I know it relates to you, but maybe Andy.
01:52Red Plus, I know you've hit on Red Plus courts.
01:56There's one going at the LCA next week or the week after.
02:00I just wondered if you could tell me a bit about what it's like, whether it's useful, how like real clay it is.
02:06Andy, I don't know if you've had any experience with them, maybe not.
02:09Yeah, I mean I practised on it a few times in the previous years.
02:15I'm probably not best qualified to say if it was good or not, but I thought it was pretty good.
02:20I was obviously with Sebastian at that time and I practised with him on it
02:25and he actually didn't know that that was the surface until after.
02:33It was a pretty cold, wet day, as it tends to be this time of year in England.
02:40It was pretty good, I thought it was pretty good.
02:44The guy who looks after it does a great job, yeah.
02:47It's been a lot of hanging around over the last few days because of the rain.
02:51I'm just wondering how you found that and whether you regret being here for those few days in a way.
02:57No, I don't regret it.
02:59It's been frustrating for everyone and obviously when you lose,
03:05if you could have said, okay, you're going to lose in the first round four days ago,
03:11you would regret sticking around.
03:13But I felt like we had a good chance to do well
03:16and we agreed that if we were going to play, we would play to try and win the tournament.
03:24So no, I don't regret playing at all.
03:32I've been struggling a little bit with my back the last couple of weeks
03:35so I probably needed a few lighter days anyway.
03:40Now I get a chance to go home and start prepping on the grass
03:44and hopefully have a few good tournaments there.
03:48Are you going to play doubles at Wimbledon?
03:50Individually with other partners?
03:53I've not thought about Wimbledon.
04:00I may do, yeah.
04:02I'm not 100% sure yet.
04:05My brother doesn't have a partner for Wimbledon currently.
04:09We've spoken a little bit about it.
04:12So I may do that, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
04:17And when would you make that decision?
04:19In the days before Wimbledon?
04:21No, not ahead of time.
04:22I mean, obviously, Jamie could also get a good partner as well.
04:29You've got your story now, come on.
04:31That's got to be the headline.
04:34So yeah, we'll see what happens.
04:36But yeah, I mean, we'll probably decide in the next few days probably.
04:42Andy, your brother said he was under the impression
04:44that if you did lose today, you'd probably be happy to go home
04:46and start prepping on the grass.
04:48Is that true?
04:49And are you both kind of planning to adjust your schedules
04:51now you've lost a year?
04:54No.
04:55I mean, obviously, if we did well here,
04:59then that might affect what I would have done
05:04at the beginning of the grass season.
05:06But obviously, we didn't.
05:07So now we'll just come up with a different plan
05:12for what the next few weeks look like.
05:15But yeah, I mean, I don't know.
05:17I don't know.
05:18We'll just come up with a different plan
05:20for what the next few weeks look like.
05:23You know, Evo obviously can speak for himself.
05:26But yeah, for me, yeah.
05:29I mean, we had a couple of plans in place
05:32that did well how the grass season would look.
05:34And if things didn't go well in the doubles,
05:37what I would do, yeah.
05:41Today is the first day of Alexander Zverev's trial
05:44for allegedly physically abusing his ex-girlfriend.
05:47I'm just curious to know, in other sports,
05:50it may not happen where a player is competing
05:52at the same time that they're in court.
05:55They may be on administrative leave
05:57or things like that.
05:58I'm curious if you feel it's right
06:02that Zverev is competing at the same time
06:05that this court case is going on or not.
06:09I mean, I got asked about that kind of a few years ago
06:13on the ATP's kind of policy around those sorts of
06:16situations and, yeah, clearly it's a difficult one.
06:24The players shouldn't be the ones
06:26that are coming in here making comment on it.
06:28It's the ATP who should make the decision
06:30and make the policy
06:34for what that would look like.
06:38And I don't think they did a particularly good job
06:41over the last few years with
06:44I don't know what the word is,
06:47but in terms of, you know,
06:49in these situations when you might ask me about that
06:52in press, it's not for us to come up with
06:55what those policies are.
06:56It's for the governing body to make that decision.
07:00And, yeah, clearly it's a very difficult subject,
07:05but it's for you guys to obviously report on that
07:08and we'll see what happens with the trial.
07:12And then I guess a decision will be made after that.
