Build the Bypass

00:00 Well, I was determined to come along here tonight because it's been a long time campaign for a
00:07 bypass in Nairn and not only has Nairn grown, the surrounding villages, Croy, Tornagreen and
00:13 Ardysir have also grown exceptionally in the last 30 years and quite honestly we're not one inch
00:22 further forward. But the strength of feeling in that room tonight is as strong as it was 30 years
00:29 ago. The promises made, 2007 campaign, A96 would be duelled, Inverness to Aberdeen, 17 years and
00:39 not an inch. So I find it hard to believe what I heard from tonight. I hope I'm wrong, I hope it
00:45 will happen and if the free port is going to be a success at Ardysir with an extra 4,000 jobs,
00:53 we desperately need an improved infrastructure here. Credit to the Minister for turning up and
01:00 doing her job. Frankly I've heard seven I think it is now Ministers say almost exactly the same
01:06 thing. Yes we're committed, oh it's difficult. I don't believe a word of it. We've had 15,
01:13 20 years of complete rubbish. The politicians don't care about this part of the world.
01:19 They've put billions upon billions into the central belt and what do we get? Absolutely
01:25 nothing. So is it going to change? I don't think so. I thought it was a very good meeting,
01:30 I thought it was very brave of the Minister to come under the current circumstances. I have a
01:35 personal connection to the bypass frontier and I have a friend who was killed at Old Urn. So I think
01:41 it's really important that we do progress with the bypass and it does need to be done now,
01:46 can't be kicked down the road any further.
