00:24 selling charcoal.
00:25 One day, Tanjiro's out on a routine delivery.
00:28 The Kamado family become the victims
00:31 of a vicious demon attack.
00:33 Tanjiro's little sister, Nezuko, is the only survivor,
00:37 but the conflict leaves her as a demon herself.

00:45 Just then, a high-ranking demon slayer named Giyu Tomioka
00:50 arrives with his sword at the ready.
00:52 Unable to bear losing his remaining family,
00:55 Tanjiro fights the Hashira to defend Nezuko.

01:03 Impressed by the boy's resolve,
01:06 Giyu sends Tanjiro off to become a slayer
01:09 and hopefully discover a cure for his sister's condition too.

01:18 After learning an advanced slayer technique

01:24 Tanjiro passes the slayer exam
01:27 and sets off into the world with Nezuko by his side.
01:30 They help bystanders fend off evil
01:33 and even run into Muzan, the progenitor of all demon kind.
01:37 Coincidentally, he's the same demon
01:39 who killed the Kamado family.

01:50 The villain is living among humans
01:52 to learn how they survive in the sunlight,
01:55 which is the only thing stopping demons
01:57 from completely ruling the world.
01:59 Following Muzan's trail leads Tanjiro and Nezuko
02:03 to a demon-ridden house.
02:05 There, they meet a boorish brute named Inosuke
02:08 and a nervous wreck who goes by Zenitsu.

02:21 Despite some early growing pains,
02:23 the three purge the house
02:24 and decide to continue their journey as an unlikely team.
02:28 The trio's next mission leads them into Mount Natagumo,
02:36 a wooded biome crawling with a sinister spider family.
02:41 Chief among them is Rui.
02:52 As Tanjiro leans the hard way, he isn't just a demon,
02:56 he's one of the 12 Kizuki,
02:58 also known as Muzan's highest ranking soldiers.
03:02 After Tanjiro reaffirms his unbreakable bond with his sister,
03:06 the two team up to give Rui a fight he'd never forget.
03:09 Meanwhile, Zenitsu finally mans up,
03:18 slashing through the spider family like nobody's business.
03:22 And yet, it still isn't enough.
03:24 But right when things look most dire,
03:26 Giyu enters the fray alongside fellow Hashira, Shinobu.
03:31 The two make quick work of the remaining foes
03:34 and successfully rescue the newbie slayers.
03:36 It's an easy win if it weren't for Nezuko.
03:40 Tanjiro wakes up to an expectant counsel of Hashira.
03:50 They debate the ethics of allowing a demon like Nezuko
03:54 to freely wander the Earth.
03:56 While Tanjiro's own testimony falls on deaf ears,
04:00 Nezuko's surprising refusal of human blood
04:03 convinces the Hashira that she's an ally to humanity.
04:07 With that matter resolved, Tanjiro and the others
04:18 set off with Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Renkoku,
04:22 to investigate the mysterious Mugen train.
04:25 There they come face to face with Enmu,
04:35 another of the 12 Kizuki who puts the train passengers
04:39 under a hypnotic spell.
04:41 After slicing through train parts, demon guts,
04:44 and some sadistic visions, Tanjiro puts an end
04:47 to Enmu's reign.
04:49 Unfortunately, things don't wrap up that easily.
04:52 The train derails and another of the 12 Kizuki, Akaza,
05:02 appears from the shadows.
05:03 Too hurt to help, Tanjiro and his friends can't do anything
05:07 but watch as Renkoku clashes with the demon.

05:13 It's a hard-fought battle, but inevitably,
05:21 Akaza's regenerating body becomes too much
05:24 for Renkoku to handle.
05:26 When the sun rises, Akaza slinks back into the darkness,
05:30 leaving behind a dead Hashira
05:32 and an inconsolable group of slayers.
05:35 (speaking in foreign language)
05:39 There's no rest for the weary, though.
05:45 Just as Tanjiro and the others finish burying their comrade,
05:48 they receive word of suspected demon presence
05:51 in the infamous Yoshiwara red-light district.
05:54 Accompanied by Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui,
05:58 the team infiltrate the city to investigate.

06:06 Zenitsu quickly befriends some of the residents
06:11 and tries to stand up for them
06:13 against their wicked courtesan, Daki.
06:15 After a slap to end all slaps,
06:18 the team realizes she's one of the 12 Kizuki
06:21 and has been manipulating the district for generations.
06:25 With everyone else either down for the count
06:28 or busy with rescue operations,
06:30 Tanjiro faces Daki alone.
06:33 He fights valiantly, but he can't win one-on-one.
06:36 That's when Nezuko comes in.
06:41 Angered by her brother's wounds,
06:43 she transforms into a true demon
06:45 and beats the ever-loving Daylight out of Daki.
06:48 It's a dual-edge sword, though.
06:57 Nezuko's bloodlust doesn't stop with Daki,
07:00 and Tanjiro has to hold her back
07:02 before she hurts anyone else.
07:04 Despite the supreme thrashing, Nezuko cuts her through.
07:12 It's Tengen who gets the honor
07:14 of officially decapitating Daki, or so it seems.
07:18 Instead of disintegrating, Daki's severed head
07:21 manifests a new kind of horror, her brother Yutaro.
07:25 (speaking in foreign language)
07:29 Since they share the Kizuki title,
07:34 they have to be killed simultaneously
07:36 for the death to stick, so that's what the slayers do.
07:40 It's a bloody beatdown for the ages.
07:42 Tengen goes wild, Zenitsu clutches up,
07:45 Inosuke gets a last-minute save,
07:48 and Tanjiro nearly loses his jaw.
07:51 But together, they manage to exorcise
07:53 the Entertainment District once and for all.
07:56 Basking in the well-earned victory,
08:04 Tengen decides to retire from slaying while he's on top.

08:13 Elsewhere, Muzan grows increasingly frustrated
08:16 with the failure of his Kizuki.
08:18 He sends two of his strongest demons
08:20 to the swordsmith village
08:22 to procure the legendary Blue Spider Lily.
08:25 Presumably, it's the final ingredient he needs
08:28 to survive in the sunlight.
08:30 (speaking in foreign language)
08:34 However, the demons don't have an easy search.
08:40 In need of a new blade, Tanjiro and Nezuko
08:43 have also come to the swordsmith village.
08:45 They have some new friends too.
08:47 Prickly slayer Genya,
08:49 the logical-to-a-fault mist hashira, Muichiro,
08:52 and the overzealous love hashira, Mitsuri.
08:55 Even with some additional small fry demons running around,
08:59 the slayers had the Kizuki outnumbered two to one.
09:03 At least they did until the demon Hantengu
09:06 started multiplying.

09:11 With the heroes spread thin,
09:14 Muichiro tackles the other Kizuki, Gyoko, on his own,
09:18 but finally reigniting his will to live,
09:21 the mist hashira puts the demon down for good.
09:24 (speaking in foreign language)
09:28 Unfortunately, it takes Muichiro out of commission too.
09:34 Meanwhile, Mitsuri's busy holding off Hantengu's clones,
09:38 leaving Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko to kill the main body.
09:42 But that's easier said than done when the sun's coming up
09:46 and Nezuko is about to fry.
09:48 In the end, Nezuko makes the ultimate sacrifice
09:51 to secure her victory.
09:52 Tanjiro slays Hantengu, but in doing so,
10:05 leaves his sister exposed to the sunlight,
10:08 and then nothing.
10:09 Nezuko doesn't burn.
10:11 Somehow, someway, Nezuko is the only demon
10:14 who can survive in the sunlight.
10:17 The revelation startles everyone, from demon to slayer.

11:10 begin an intense new training regimen
11:12 in preparation for what may very well be their final battle.
