00:19 Rayman 2 The Great Escape
00:21 A 3D platformer starring the limbless mascot character Rayman, this sequel wears its age
00:31 fairly well.
00:32 However, because it was released across multiple platforms, the actual graphical quality will
00:36 vary depending on which version.
00:44 No matter which of them you play, though, we're going to go out on a limb and say
00:47 that its cartoony art style looks good regardless.
00:49 Featuring an enchanting world, an engaging story, and great gameplay, Rayman 2 is a great
00:54 escape back to a simpler time that won't feel too dated today.

01:16 Point and click adventure games in general tend to age pretty well, and the first one
01:20 by LucasArts to use 3D graphics has held up fantastically.
01:23 A film noir mystery flavored with a "Land of the Dead" aesthetic, Grim Fandango is
01:28 like The Maltese Falcon meets Coco.
01:30 Created by Tim Schafer and featuring the creator's signature snappy humor, Grim Fandango has
01:35 graphics full of panache and more skeletons than a mobster's closet.
01:39 The story is hilarious and sucks you right in, and if the visuals are still not up to
01:43 your standards, there's always the remastered version.
01:55 Crazy Taxi
01:56 Released in arcades at the tail end of the decade, Crazy Taxi delivered absolute insanity.
02:07 The game sees players forced to get their passengers to their destinations in a set
02:11 amount of time.
02:12 With little regard for the rules of the road, pedestrians, or other drivers, although the
02:16 detail on the faces isn't up to today's standards, the colorful palette and realistic
02:20 proportions are pretty good for the turn of the millennium.
02:22 And regardless of your opinion on the graphics, the soundtrack is just as awesome now as it
02:26 was decades ago, though you may need to be a 90s kid to truly appreciate it.
02:38 Tekken 3
02:39 The Tekken franchise has always been near the forefront when it comes to graphical quality.
02:50 Although Tekken 3 isn't up to modern standards, it's still impressive for the time.
02:54 The game features a fairly large roster of diverse fighters, some of whom go on to become
02:58 some of the biggest names in the franchise.
03:05 Tekken 3 is also notable for its increased emphasis on sidestepping, which adds more
03:09 depth, literally, to the fighting system.
03:12 And bottom line, it still plays great, which is all most people want in a fighter anyway.
03:21 Shenmue
03:22 Released only two days before the end of the decade, Shenmue just barely qualifies for
03:33 our list.
03:34 Indeed, many of its features were pioneering and influenced many of the games of the last
03:38 20 years.
03:39 Shenmue features NPCs with complex schedules, an open world environment, quick time events,
03:44 and mini-games aplenty.
03:45 Its visuals were also revolutionary for the time, with a level of quality rarely seen
03:49 on consoles.
03:50 Although Shenmue didn't get much recognition at the time, it has since become a cult classic.
04:01 Super Mario 64
04:02 Sure, some of the polygons in this N64 launch title are sharp enough to draw blood through
04:12 the screen, but come on, it's Mario.
04:15 Nintendo's mascot is ageless regardless of the medium.
04:17 Super Mario 64 basically invented the 3D platformer, giving players control over the camera, and
04:23 giving us free reign to explore Princess Peach's castle and the many worlds within.
04:32 Super Mario 64 has remained so beloved because of how vibrant and distinct its environments
04:37 are, how responsive and fun it is to control Mario, and because it's just a solid game
04:41 all around.
04:42 Like we said, it's Mario.
04:48 Half-Life
04:49 Even today, Half-Life plays very much like modern shooters.
04:59 That's probably because most of the current FPS games owe a lot to Half-Life.
05:03 The game features fast and responsive combat and tells its story through in-game events,
05:07 the latter of which is popularized.
05:09 Playing as Gordon Freeman as he battles aliens and human soldiers is not an experience we'll
05:13 soon forget.
05:14 The graphics are fantastic for the late 90s, and the aesthetic of Black Mesa and the other
05:18 environments you encounter remain striking.
05:20 In fact, you might say that Half-Life's Half-Life has been long indeed.
05:31 Banjo-Kazooie
05:44 Out of all the 3D platformers from the 90s, Banjo-Kazooie has probably aged the best.
05:49 Its cartoony art style has a way of smoothing out any rough edges to its graphics.
05:53 And while the game still looks great, its spectacularly catchy music and fun gameplay
05:57 hold up just as well.
05:59 With its charming characters, big worlds to explore, and more collectibles to grab than
06:03 you can shake a bird in a backpack at, Banjo-Kazooie will fit in perfectly no matter what year
06:07 it is.

06:14 Metal Gear Solid
06:24 Metal Gear Solid essentially popularized cinematic storytelling in video games, and it couldn't
06:29 do that without some decent graphics.
06:31 Although it looks blockier than games today compared to most games of the time, it's
06:34 downright photorealistic.
06:39 Not only does Metal Gear Solid still look good, but its stealth gameplay and solid controls
06:44 ensure that we still have a blast whenever we play it.
06:47 Just don't ask us to explain the storyline.
06:48 We'd need an hour.
06:57 The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
07:05 You're shocked, we can tell.
07:06 There's a reason Ocarina of Time tends to top so many top ten lists, and not just from
07:10 us, it's amazing.
07:12 The expansive world of Hyrule looks beautiful even decades later.
07:15 The character designs are unique and iconic.
07:17 Every locale is bursting with personality.
07:20 Along with the set dressing, every other aspect of the game holds up wonderfully too.
07:24 The story is simple, but gripping.
07:25 The music is spectacular.
07:31 The controls were innovative and influenced many games to come.
07:34 And speaking of influences, Ocarina of Time basically became the gold standard by which
07:38 every other Legend of Zelda game has been measured since its release.
07:42 Truly it's a timeless game.
