00:00 We're off to Alam's Butchers, a place Jane MacDonald has been coming for many years since

00:06 she was a child and over there she went to Wakey Market to buy her meat with her parents

00:12 but now after the market shut they've had their own butchers shop open and this is the

00:19 home of her favourite pork pies.

00:22 But aren't we the home of pork pies? So what's so special about these?

00:28 According to staff at the butchers it's all about the ingredients. Yes, lard, flour, salt

00:35 and some boiling water and then they are hand pressed in these tins.

00:42 While the proper press is on the stove heating up ready to make the pork pie shape.

00:50 Once the filling is in and the lid is on top and then some glaze the pork pies are ready

00:57 to roll, well get baked that is and these are Jane MacDonald's faves.

01:03 How often do you see her? Not as often as we used to because she's a very busy woman

01:07 now touring all year but certainly Christmas times special occasions you know and and you

01:14 know every week years and years ago when she first started her singing career.

01:22 And you used to know Jane from back in the day when she used to buy meat from your market

01:26 so?

01:27 Yeah when we were market traders many years ago Jane and her mother used to come every

01:31 Friday every single Friday yeah.

01:32 You know like Jane we have a lot of families that have shopped with us you know for a similar

01:37 amount of time really you know which is lovely you know the regular customers mean everything

01:42 to us well all the customers mean everything to us but you know it's quite an achievement

01:46 to serve people for you know 30 or 40 years I think you know it's quite proud really.

01:57 And the best way to eat Jane MacDonald's pork pies?

02:00 Eat them cold or at room temperature and a good pork pie doesn't need out fancy on it
