It opened this week and serves as a tribute to the 7-year-old who died after a hit and run in Sandgate, and James Cleverly made it for an ice cream on the election trail today.

00:00 A place for family, friends and the community to remember a seven-year-old boy who died
00:05 after a hit and run in Sandgate. A place, while on the election trail, Home Secretary
00:11 James Cleverley paid a visit to. It's the ice-green parlour William Brown opened to
00:16 celebrate the life of his son.
00:18 This is such a huge story for the local area and for the people of Kent. It's rocked the
00:22 community and something so amazing has come from it. How do you think about politicising
00:27 an event like this and making this the place where you do launch your campaign here in
00:31 East Kent?
00:32 Well look, I have come here to have a quiet conversation with Will. I will be going out
00:38 with Damon and campaigning across the rest of the constituency and look, I would have
00:45 been more than happy to do this interview at any other part of the constituency. You
00:50 are the guys that chose to set up here. So I'm here to have a quiet conversation with
00:55 Will away from your cameras and microphones and then we'll go out campaigning and do the
01:00 political stuff elsewhere.
01:02 But the politics plays a part, especially as the polls suggest a Conservative wipe-out
01:06 here in East Kent. But for William Sr, it was a chance to highlight the success of his
01:11 small start-up after the sudden loss of his child.
01:15 For me, it's always about my son and of course my beautiful daughter Pearl. But as far as
01:22 politics is concerned, something needs to be done in this country to try and get us
01:29 out of this stagnant mode we're in. So the fact that they're actively out being a part
01:40 of small businesses like this I think is great that they've come down and showed us the time.
01:47 But yeah, something definitely needs to happen to shake things up in England.
01:52 Since opening this week, William's welcomed thousands from across this tight-knit community.
01:56 He's got sweets, ice cream, waffles and all the sweet treats you could think of on offer.
02:01 But also the UK's biggest gumball machine. And today, a very special guest, the Home
02:08 Secretary. Giving voters here in Folkestone even more to chew on.
02:12 Abbey Hook for KMTV in Folkestone.
