00:00Yes, Manu.
00:01Are you supporting Senator Menendez's independent bid to run for a Senate seat in New Jersey?
00:09Look, the primary is today, and I'm not even going to comment at this point.
00:12Leader Schumer, do you think that Democrats have a problem with the southern border and
00:15messaging ahead of 2024?
00:16I mean, Republicans have said that this is basically a charade by the Biden administration,
00:21this executive action.
00:22Look, the bottom line is that we all know what happened.
00:27Democrats supported a strong bipartisan bill.
00:31Republicans initially said this is a very strong, good bill.
00:34And then they turned around 180 degrees when Donald Trump was very explicit.
00:39He wanted the bill to fail to create chaos at the borders.
00:42Our preference is to have the Republicans join with us and support a strong bipartisan
00:51piece of legislation.
00:52Yes.
00:53After the Trump guilty verdict in Manhattan, some of your Republican colleagues are throwing
00:58around terms like kangaroo court, weaponization of justice.
01:02Do you have any concerns about what things will look like after the election and whether
01:07people will accept the results of the election?
01:09Look, it was — the jury has spoken in a process that jurors use throughout America,
01:15and Donald Trump has proven to be a felon, a convicted felon.
01:19Yes.
01:20Is there any update on when the Senate might vote on Senator Whitehouse's Supreme Court
01:25ethics bill?
01:26I'm talking to — look, first, Justice Roberts has been, in my opinion, not lived up to his
01:32responsibilities as chief justice.
01:34On issue after issue, he's supposed to be the guardian of the court's fairness and opinion,
01:39but on something near and dear to me, which is forum shopping, on ethics, on recusal.
01:45So, Senator Durbin and I and the Judiciary Committee are discussing the best ways to
01:50move forward.
01:51Yes.
01:52Are you going to try to meet with Speaker Johnson to try to negotiate some type of deal
01:56on border legislation?
01:58Look, as I said, the Republicans turned down bipartisan border legislation that they had
02:04already agreed to.
02:05They ought to change their minds and support our bill.
02:08If not, President Biden has moved forward because he prefers legislation, we prefer
02:15legislation.
02:16The Republicans are blocking it, and so Biden is moving forward.
02:19Yes.
02:20So, the House passed their tax cut bill.
02:23Senator Whitehouse supports it.
02:25Are you going to force a vote on that before the end of the summer to put people on record
02:29income?
02:30Look, I support the tax cut bill.
02:31It has a lot of good things in it.
02:33But we — right now, Senator Crapo and a lot of the Republicans are opposing it.
02:37We hope they'll change their minds.
02:39Thank you, everybody.
02:40Thank you, everybody.
02:41Thank you, everybody.
02:42Thank you, everybody.
02:43Thank you, everybody.
02:44Thank you, everybody.
02:45Thank you, everybody.
