00:04 The Star Outstanding Business Awards, SOBA 2024,
00:08 celebrated a momentous 15-year anniversary during its launch at Manara Star Today.
00:13 It introduced its SOBA ambassadors for the first time,
00:16 a carefully appointed array of past winners who, until today,
00:19 continue to chart their success by upskilling their businesses
00:23 while finding ways to push the sustainability agenda.
00:26 Star Media Group Chief Executive Officer Chan Seng Fat,
00:31 in his speech said SOBA aims to showcase the remarkable achievement
00:34 and potential of our local enterprises in an ever-evolving economic landscape.
00:38 The team for SOBA 15 this year,
00:42 breaking horizons is more than just a team,
00:46 it is a call to action.
00:49 It's encapsulated our commitment to helping SMEs grow
00:54 and elevate their business by breaking through traditional boundaries
00:58 and exploring new opportunities.
01:01 The launch event was attended by sponsors CGC Malaysia Berhad,
01:05 PKT Logistics Group and RHB Bank,
01:08 together with official trade promotion partner Matrade,
01:11 as well as the award's strategic and working partners.
01:15 CGC President and CEO Datuk Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Ishak said
01:20 MSMEs must embark on digital transformation if they have not already done so.
01:25 I think in terms of building successful businesses,
01:30 the most important thing is that they must know what the market needs,
01:35 what their clients need.
01:36 Because if you produce something which is not needed by the market,
01:40 then you've got nothing to sell.
01:42 They need to use data as well as artificial intelligence
01:45 to get the answers to the questions, how they can capture the market.
01:50 PKT Logistics Group,
01:52 Sendirian Berhad Group Chief Revenue Officer Kwan Eugene
01:56 pointed out that the business environment is evolving at a fast pace,
02:00 and SMEs have to cope with that as well.
02:03 SMEs now have to cope with even larger problems.
02:07 We have inflation, we have an impending rising diesel fuel costs,
02:13 and the external environment.
02:16 So there are now ESG factors to be considered in their businesses.
02:22 But one thing for sure is that the business environment is evolving so quickly,
02:27 so fast, that SMEs have to cope with not just the changes, but the speed of it.
02:32 RHP Bank Berhad, SME Banking Head Yip Hao Nong said
02:37 this is a favourable time for SMEs to invest in their own transformation.
02:41 The abundance of data and the wider accessibility of technology
02:45 has made this more realistic and affordable than ever before.
02:51 The pressure to build a more resilient supply chain
02:53 gives domestic SMEs a very rare opportunity to grow,
02:57 during which they can update their operation and operating strategies.
03:02 They must not miss this unique opportunity.
03:06 Also at the launch were SMG Chief Business Officer Lydia Wang
03:10 and Chief Content Officer Esther Ng.
03:13 Soba 2024 is organised by SMG with CGC, PKT Logistics and RHB Bank as main sponsors,
