00:26detention come amid increasing financial pressure and a strike from the
00:31US-led coalition targeting the rebels the move by Houthis who seized Yemen
00:36capital nearly a decade ago have been fighting the Saudi-led coalition since
00:40then and it has raised concern as they have also been targeting shipping
00:44throughout the Red Sea corridor over the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza while gaining
00:50more international attention the secretive group has cracked down on
00:53dissent at home recently sentencing 44 people to death the United Nations
01:00acknowledged the detention with spokesperson Stephen Dujarric stating
01:05that they are very concerned and are actively seeking clarification from the
01:09Houthis regarding the circumstances of these detention he added that they are
01:14pursuing all available channel to secure the immediate and unconditional release
01:18of all the detained staff as rapidly as possible of the 11 detained UN staffers
01:259 are men and 2 are women working for various UN agencies including the Human
01:30Rights Agency the Special Envoy's Office UNICEF the World Food Programme and
01:34UNESCO in addition to the UN staffer employees from other aid groups such as
01:39the Save the Children and Care International have also been detained by
01:43the Houthis across four provinces under their control the human rights group
01:49are urging the immediate release citing the arbitrary detention and the forced
01:53disappearance violating the human rights however it is very unlikely that they
01:58will listen to them the detentions also come as Houthis face currency issues
02:02and have no support to the economy in areas they hold leading them to
02:07introduce a new coin into the Yemeni currency a move criticized by Yemen's
02:11exiled government and other nations as counterfeiting the Houthi attacks on
02:17shipping have also helped to deflect attention from other problems at home
02:21and have stalemated the war but they are still facing the increased casualties
02:25and damage from the US led airstrike targeting the group for months as
02:29tensions escalate the international community continues to call for the
02:34immediate release of the detained workers and aid agencies urging the
02:38Houthis to respect international law and human rights but what exactly is the
02:42demand of Houthis no one knows till now
