Hanif Mohammad's 499 #euphoriacricket

Did you know Brian Lara is the only cricketer to score 500 runs in a first-class innings? He achieved this remarkable feat in 1994. However, 34 years earlier, Hanif Mohammad nearly became the first cricketer to reach this milestone, but a tragic error cost him the historic 500.
In the 1959 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy semi-final between Bahawalpur and Karachi, Hanif Mohammad, batting for Karachi, reached 498 runs with just a couple of balls remaining on the third day. Due to an error, the scoreboard displayed his score at 496. On the penultimate ball of the day, Hanif played a shot past point, completed the first run, and attempted a second to retain strike. Tragically, he was run out for 499. Furious and inconsolable, he returned to the dressing room. However, his spirits were lifted when telegrams of congratulations began to arrive, including messages from President Ayub Khan and the legendary Sir Donald Bradman.
