Blair Drummond Safari Park was first opened to the public in the year 1970 and is at present spread over one hundred and twenty acres, fourty nine hectures. The park features a petting zoo, wildlife exhibits, children's playgrounds, amusements, a boat safari and drive through animal reserves.

The Safari Park has various reserves where visitors can drive through using their own cars or by using the park's own Safari Bus to view animals that are free roaming. The first animal reserve features non carnivorous species native to Africa which include the Southern White Rhinoceros, Kudu, Lechwe, Guineafowl, Ankole Watusi Cattle and Grant's Zebra. The White Rhinos are part of a Europe wide breeding programme which initially began with the arrival of three young Rhinos from the Kruger National Park.

The next reserve contains African Lions who are also part of a Europe wide breeding programme. Recently a male Lion called Zulu was introduced through an exchange with the Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen with the aim of ensuring genetic diversity is maintained.

The final animal reserve houses various species native to Asia which includes the Eld's Deer, Axis Deer, Nilgai, Bactrian Camels and Pere David's Deer. There are various other attractions within the park which include the Pet's Farm where domestic species of animals live which includes Common Dwarf Mongooses, Oriential Small Clawed Otters, Slender Tailed Meerkats, Kune Kune Pigs, Guinea Pigs, Llamas, Donkeys, Clydesdale Horses, Shetland Ponies and Pygmy Goats.

Birds on display often include Barn Owls, Vultures, Kites, Falcons, Eagle Owls, Harris Hawks and a White Tailed Sea Eagle. Blair Drummond Safari Park is currently the only place in Scotland to see an African Elephant so worth a watch if you are interested in seeing what their current occupant, Mondula is up to. You can also see Elephants at Blackpool Zoo.
