00:00 Sam Thompson, you are in a Disney Pixar movie.
00:04 I know!
00:05 What's going on? How did this happen?
00:07 I still don't know, if I'm honest with you.
00:09 I couldn't tell you.
00:10 When they asked me to...
00:11 Just to preface it, I do like three lines,
00:14 but it's the best three lines of my life,
00:17 and I'm just so grateful to even be sat here,
00:21 because I normally sit where you sit.
00:23 I know.
00:23 And so to be able to answer questions about a movie
00:26 that's as big as Inside Out 2 as well.
00:29 I met Amy just now as well.
00:30 She's so nice.
00:31 So nice.
00:32 And so, yeah, it's been really, really cool.
00:34 So when they asked me, I was like,
00:36 "Mate, yeah, I'll be there whenever you want.
00:38 I'll delete everything in my diary."
00:40 So how did that actually come about then?
00:43 Do you know what?
00:44 They got in touch.
00:45 We didn't even get in touch with them.
00:46 They got in touch with us,
00:48 which is even more wild to me.
00:51 I can't believe it.
00:52 So, yeah, I really...
00:54 I just, yeah, it's kind of a dream come true.
00:55 And I was saying earlier, actually,
00:56 I've got a young nephew, three years old,
00:58 and he's not quite of an age where he understands this.
01:02 But two years' time,
01:04 the fact that I'll be able to sit down with him
01:05 and be like, "Hey, big guy, let's watch this.
01:08 I'm in this."
01:08 It's just going to be such a cool experience.
01:10 So tell me about your character then.
01:12 Who do you play?
01:13 Who do you voice?
01:14 So I am Security Man Sam.
01:16 Security Man Sam.
01:17 The guy with the aviators, yeah.
01:18 He's quite big, actually.
01:20 He's got aviators and he's got a police hat.
01:22 And he's here to keep the peace.
01:25 But it all goes terribly wrong for him.
01:26 And so, yeah, he's really cool.
01:29 I like him a lot.
01:30 So what did you do then?
01:32 How method did you go for this role?
01:33 Mate, I'm going to be honest with you.
01:35 I was sticking my hands out and stuff.
01:36 I didn't realise.
01:37 I'd literally be like, "No, no, wait! No, no, no!"
01:39 And then I'd be like, "What am I doing?"
01:41 I have like three lines.
01:42 I'm literally out here moving hands and stuff.
01:44 There were like 20 people in the room.
01:46 There was a director who was on a Zoom.
01:49 And he was like, "Hey, man, just get this going.
01:51 Let's do this, let's do that.
01:52 Do you mind if we do this again?"
01:53 I was like, "Wow, I'm a movie star."
01:55 There you go.
01:56 You've said it.
01:57 And then two hours later, I was still trying to do it.
01:59 And I was like, "God, if I am a movie star, I'm a bad one."
02:02 Did you go and hang out with security men just to see...
02:05 No, I'm going to be honest with you.
02:06 I would be a very bad security man.
02:09 I've got the backbone of a fish.
02:10 I'm not very...
02:11 I hate confrontation.
02:13 So I wouldn't have been good at it.
02:15 But I got into the role, man.
02:16 Really got into it.
02:18 I think you would actually be quite good in security
02:19 because you'd be able to defuse a situation.
02:21 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:21 "Guys, guys, what's going on?"
02:23 "Just relax.
02:25 Chill."
02:26 I mean, you've done this.
02:27 You are the king of the jungle, pretty much king of the internet.
02:32 You've got an absolutely stunning girlfriend.
02:34 That's true.
02:35 Great friend and Pete.
02:37 Are you just living the dream?
02:39 Yeah, life is amazing.
02:41 And I'm very lucky.
02:42 I mean, God, I...
02:43 Yeah, to be honest with you, I didn't even know what I was doing.
02:46 If I hadn't been doing this industry,
02:49 I genuinely don't know what I'd be doing.
02:51 So, yeah, every morning,
02:53 I do my little affirmations every morning.
02:55 I'm just like, "You're very grateful to be where you are," and all that.
02:58 So, like, 'cause it's everything I've done.
03:02 I don't see it as career.
03:04 And I think that's such a nice feeling to have
03:06 'cause I know a lot of people don't get that luxury.
03:09 Like, I don't see it as career.
03:10 I literally see it as, like, one fun thing to the next fun thing.
03:13 Like, "Oh, we're gonna do this.
03:14 Oh, we're gonna do that."
03:15 It's just, like, really such a lovely feeling
03:17 to be able to do something you actually genuinely enjoy.
03:21 And as you just said, whether it be TV, radio, podcasting, online, digital,
03:26 'cause I love my digital, like, all of those things,
03:29 to be able to do all of that is, like, a really amazing experience.
03:32 So, yeah, I've just skipped everything I do, and especially this.
03:36 - Yeah. - And so, yeah, in a very long-winded way,
03:39 I feel very lucky.
03:40 And you get to do it with, you know, a lot of it with your best mate.
03:43 - Yeah. - And you get to do it with your girlfriend,
03:45 people you love as well.
03:46 - Yeah. - Like, that's special, right?
03:47 Yeah, it's amazing.
03:48 Every, like, you know, I can...
03:50 That's why I love the digital stuff, because I literally will, like,
03:52 jump over the fence.
03:53 I live next to my sister, and I'll film something with her,
03:55 and then I'll film something with Pete, and I'll film something with Zara,
03:57 and there's just so many people.
03:58 There's just so much to be able to do,
04:01 and there's so much creativity you can put into that.
04:04 So I'm really, really happy.
04:06 Well, you're such a nice guy, so good for you.
04:07 - You're so sweet of you. Thank you. - Good for you.
04:09 - What a lovely person you are. - Listen, aww,
04:11 but I thought I loved the person you are.
