00:00 I'm here with late Macquarie athlete Alex Hale who was off to the Invictus Warrior Games in the US.
00:04 Alex, tell us a little bit about your background and what attracted you to the Warrior Games.
00:08 So I've been in the Navy for 22 years. My last job I was the aviation engineer for 816 Squadron
00:15 until I had the accident in the 20th of April 2023 where I was struck by a car whilst cycling on my
00:23 bike and since then I was in hospital for about 6 months. While I was there, Navy engaged me in
00:30 exploring the interest into the Invictus Games program. I had a look at one of the training
00:35 camps and then the nominations came through in late last year. So I nominated for that and they
00:41 asked "Would you like to go to the Warrior Games in June of this year?" and I went "Yes" and I was
00:46 ultimately selected. Here I am now training madly to go away in two weeks to start over in Florida
00:55 and I'm competing in five sports including hand cycle, rowing, archery, shooting and wheelchair
01:02 basketball.
