On Wednesday, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) spoke about Republicans blocking the Right To Contraception Act.

00:00 Okay, well, good evening everyone.
00:06 In the nearly two years since the Supreme Court threw out Roe v. Wade, we've seen extreme
00:11 MAGA Republicans work to roll back health care and tear reproductive freedom away from
00:16 Americans across the country.
00:19 And as a result of these barbaric efforts, birth control, including Plan B, IUDs, condoms,
00:25 and other forms of contraception are under threat.
00:28 Today, Senate Democrats took action and brought our Right to Contraception Act to the floor
00:32 for a vote, a very simple vote.
00:34 Do you support the right to contraception?
00:36 It's legislation that I'm incredibly proud to co-lead with Senators Markey and Hirono.
00:42 What our legislation sought to do is in the name.
00:44 It would codify every American's right to access birth control, no matter their zip
00:49 code.
00:50 And our legislation would also establish a right for doctors to provide contraception
00:53 and discuss options with their patients without fear of being prosecuted or thrown in jail.
00:59 And this should have been easy.
01:01 But unfortunately, cruelly, Senate Republicans blocked it.
01:04 And by doing so, they've made it clear once again that they are committed to continuing
01:08 their anti-choice, anti-science crusade that is putting access to basic health care across
01:13 our country at risk.
01:15 They voted against birth control, against Plan B and IUDs.
01:19 They voted against freedom for Americans to decide if, when, and how they want to become
01:23 a parent.
01:24 It's despicable, but it's not over.
01:27 Many Republicans will say that we are being overzealous and that there's no real threat
01:31 to birth control.
01:32 Well, they also said that we were overreacting when we warned the country that they were
01:37 coming for Roe v. Wade.
01:39 Republicans said we were overreacting when we said IVF would be next.
01:43 But this is not an overreaction.
01:45 This has been Republicans' plan all along.
01:48 And that is why Senate Democrats will keep working to protect the right to access contraception,
01:53 the right to access reproductive health care and IVF, and the reproductive freedom that
01:57 every American deserves no matter their zip code.
02:00 Thank you.
02:01 MR PALLADINO: Thanks, Tammy.
02:02 Okay, we'll be sure to refer some questions.
