00:00I'm Nolte. I'm Nolte, Jack Helmets. Jack, nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Ben. Ben, right on. My wife, Carol.
00:07Can you just tell me where you're from? I think I know from the accent, but you know.
00:10Iowa, in the United States. Lovely. And how long have you been in there?
00:15This is our third day. Third day? Are you enjoying it so far? Oh yes, absolutely.
00:20What's been your favourite part of the day so far?
00:23Well, let's see. We went to the Giant's Causeway yesterday.
00:28The food, the people, mainly. Everybody, like you, everybody we stopped to talk to.
00:33Brendan, in the tourist information area, stopped what he was doing and told us everything that would interest us.
00:40Anything he thought would interest us. Very nice.
00:43We really just started our dairy tour, I would call it.
00:47We got in late one night and then yesterday we did the causeway and push mills.
00:53And then today we're really focusing on dairy and then we leave tomorrow.
00:57The historic parts, like the walls? Yes, yes.
01:00Terry, do you know Terry, that guy that does the tours?
01:03I do, yeah. Okay, Brendan's going to set us up with Terry.
01:07He's a popper, yeah. He'll give you a good tour.
01:11Your name, what's your name? Tom.
01:14Just Nolte, no Mick on it.
01:16Is that an Irish name? Oh yeah.
01:18The Noltes in the Quinns and my mom was the Kellys in the Channels.
01:23Wow. Do you know what part of Ireland your family originated from?
01:28Down by a small lake, just in the north of the south, up near the border.
01:34I can't tell you the name of it right now. Cross, cross low, cross low.
01:39My pronunciations aren't very great.
01:41It was north of Dublin, kind of northwest of Dublin.
01:45And then I have my great-great-grandfather from Ballymoney.
01:50And what was his name? Kennedy.
01:52Kennedy? Wow.
01:53William John Kennedy. So we were over there earlier in the week as well.
01:59Ballymoney, on the way here actually.
02:01So we were hunting the old cemetery.
02:04It was, yeah, yeah.
02:06If we didn't find him, if we had more time, we'd have stopped and seen a priest.
02:10Or somebody with the records, you know, and see what the plots are.
02:15We'll be back. I hope so. Ireland knows we've had a wonderful year.
02:19We had our three daughters and our three son-in-laws for the first week, week and a half.
02:25And then they went to Europe and we stayed for another week.
02:29Came north.
02:31Well, it was a pleasure meeting you. I really hope you enjoy your day.
02:34We will. Thank you.
02:35The tour will be good, I promise you. Nice to meet you.
02:37The best part of everything is the history.
02:40Nice to meet you, my friend.
02:41And I'm sure this tour we paid will be that.
02:44You know, just hearing the history and the struggles.
02:47And, you know, getting a better face-to-face knowledge of that.
02:51When you're here, maybe trying to cross the violence that's happened here in the many years.
02:57There's a lot of positive that's happened here.
02:59Lots of arts that you can enjoy when you're here.
03:02There's more to Ireland than the violence.
03:05It's just so unfair, but it goes on in the world everywhere.
03:08You know, it's just wrong.
03:10We're supposed to be civilized.
03:12And they won't leave you.
03:14At least they sent their army out of here.
03:16You're killing your own civilian people.
03:18Exactly.
03:19Yeah.
03:20Don't get them going.
03:24Are you guys local guys?
03:25Yeah.
03:26Oh, good.
03:27I'm from there, born and bred.
03:28I've been here 20, 25 years.
03:31All right.
03:33Wonderful.
03:34Thank you for your time.

03:43My name's Margaret.
03:44What's your name?
03:45Bern.
03:46Margaret Bern.
03:47I'm Sally Wilson.
03:48Nice to meet you.
03:50Where are you from?
03:52Australia.
03:53Australia.
03:54And where are you from in Australia?
03:55On the East Coast.
03:56Roughly Sydney.
03:58Sydney.
03:59Gorgeous.
04:00And what do you think of the area so far?
04:02I've never been to Ireland before, but it's absolutely beautiful.
04:05I'm really loving it.
04:07How many days have you been in Derry so far?
04:09Sorry?
04:10How many days have you been in Derry?
04:12Derry?
04:13Just today.
04:14We're in Derry, but we've been traveling all around.
04:17We've done the Ring of Kerry and sort of in one end and out the other.
04:22So you've been all over Ireland then?
04:24Yeah.
04:25Yes.
04:26Any favorite locations so far?
04:28Ring of Kerry.
04:29Where?
04:30Ring of Kerry.
04:31Ring of Kerry.
04:32Gorgeous.
04:33Yeah.
04:34I think the landscape is just amazing.
04:35It's got a peaceful feel about it.
04:41Yeah.
04:42It's like a Norwegian.
04:43Yeah.
04:44What's your plans for the day?
04:45Are they any easier for the walls?
04:47No, just have a bit of a look around and we're off to, where are we going next?
04:52We're going on through.
04:53Oh, we're going to the Giant's Causeway.
04:56Oh, gorgeous causeway.
04:57So that's our next stop.
04:58It's a bit of a whistle-stop tour here today.
05:01I think the legend is that the Giant's Causeway used to be a bridge from us to Scotland.
05:07Oh, okay.
05:08And then over the years, it seems a bit of a way, but I'm not sure.
05:13A long time ago.
05:14We'll see.
05:15We'll see.
05:16It's true for our sake.
05:17But any plans to stop at any bars or any restaurants?
05:20I don't know about the bars.
05:24There's one other thing I enjoy about Ireland.
05:27The Irish coffee.
05:28Oh.
05:29It's pretty good.
05:30It's pretty good.
05:31Have you had any Guinness since you've arrived?
05:33Yes.
05:34Yes.
05:35What do you think?
05:36I didn't mind it.
05:37No?
05:38I couldn't drink the whole pint.
05:39No?
05:40Not a fan?
05:41Oh, not that much.
05:42No.
05:43It can be quite heavy.
05:44Mm-hmm.
05:45I reckon you don't need a meal if you have a Guinness.
05:48No.
05:49It's part meal, half a pint.
05:50Yes, exactly.
05:51But I'll let you scoot on with your day.
05:53It was lovely meeting you.
05:54I hope you have a great day.
05:55Yes, thank you very much.
05:56Thanks for stopping for some talking to us.

06:07Where are you from?
06:08We're from Nottinghamshire in England.
06:09And how long have you been in the area so far?
06:12Half a day.
06:13About three hours.
06:14Three hours.
06:15Yeah.
06:16Is this your first day in Ireland, or have you been across Ireland?
06:19We had a day trip once from Stranraer.
06:22Oh, before, yeah.
06:23No, this time we arrived on Tuesday in Belfast.
06:26Yeah.
06:27Two nights in Belfast.
06:29And then we've come here.
06:31So...
06:32What are you thinking so far away?
06:34What are you thinking?
06:35What are you thinking?
06:36We've just walked round the walls, which was the main thing we wanted to do.
06:40That's the main, yeah.
06:41So we've done that.
06:42Very interesting.
06:43Yeah.
06:44Lots of history to read, yeah.
06:45Popped into the cathedral while we were on the way around.
06:48And now we're just going to have a quick look in the Guildhall to see what's happening there.
06:53Yeah, there's a museum there.
06:55It's stopped on there.
06:56It's really nice in there.
06:57What's your plans for the rest of the day?
06:59Well, when we've finished here, we're travelling over...
07:03Down to Donegal.
07:05We're going to Donegal.
07:06Yeah.
07:07What are you hoping to see in Donegal?
07:08Well, we were hoping to do a boat tour to see some cliffs, but...
07:12Oh no, that's not...
07:13Well, no, that's the next one.
07:14Yeah.
07:16Yeah, but we're trying to...
07:19We're driving round...
07:20We're driving round the whole of Ireland in two weeks, so we're just having a snapshot of...
07:25Galway, Ring of Kerry...
07:27Wow, you're leaving Dublin.
07:28Blurn, Ecor, ending up in Dublin.
07:31And then, because we got the ferry from Scotland to Belfast, we're going home.
07:36Ferry from Dublin to what we had in the home.
07:40So...
07:41So it's only a short stay here on the ferry.
07:43Yeah.
07:44There's lots of new building in new paved areas and all that in this area.
07:49Well, we're happy to have you here for your short stay and I hope you enjoy it.
07:52We will, we will.
07:53Thank you very much.
07:54I hope you'll...
07:55I'll let you spatter on with your day in.

07:57Thank you.
07:58Enjoy yourselves.
