00:00Ariana Grande must have been watching Quiet on Set
00:04with a much, from a much different perspective
00:06than most of us.
00:07Because obviously.
00:07She was in the middle of it.
00:08Right, she was, and in fact she was seen
00:10in some of the clips that they played in the docuseries.
00:13But she had, for those who are of a certain age
00:16and don't know this, she had two huge hits
00:19on Nickelodeon, Victorious and Sam & Cat.
00:22So she clearly had some strong feelings
00:26about what was being presented here.
00:28She hadn't spoken out about it
00:30until she went on Penn Badgley's podcast,
00:33it's called Pod Crushed, and she opened up about this
00:37and what her experience is and what she thinks
00:40of what they presented in the documentary.
00:43I'm still in real time reprocessing my relationship to it.
00:48Speaking specifically about our show,
00:50I think that was something that we were convinced
00:53was the cool thing about us, is that we pushed
00:55the envelope with our humor and the innuendos
00:57were like, we were told and convinced as well
01:02that it was like the cool differentiation.
01:04And I don't know, I think it just all happened so quickly.
01:09And now looking back on some of the clips,
01:11I'm like, that's, damn, like really?
01:16You know, I just think about it.
01:17It's like what I, if I had a daughter
01:19and then the things that weren't approved
01:21for the network were snuck onto like our website
01:23or whatever it was, and that is another discovery.
01:26But going into it, I guess I'm upset.
01:29That's really fascinating that she's not really able
01:34to articulate the specific points.
01:37It's more just the emotion of it.
01:39Yeah.
01:40But I find that interesting.
01:41Well, I think people have been waiting to hear from her
01:43for a while now, because you've seen a lot
01:44of the other Nickelodeon stars obviously speak out.
01:47I think it's just hard for someone like her
01:48because clearly she's saying that she may have not
01:51had similar experiences of some of the people
01:54that obviously have come forward about Nickelodeon.
01:57But I think what she's trying to say is that like
02:00through an adult lens, she looks back at some
02:02of the content and stuff that they did
02:04and does kind of find it a little inappropriate or weird.
02:07And, but she also, I think, isn't trying to go as far
02:10as saying, you know, the other allegations
02:13that people have had against Dan Snyder and Nickelodeon.
02:16Yeah, I think that's right.
02:18I mean, she's kind of tempered it, but that's, you know,
02:22it really is interesting because I think
02:25what she's saying is that she had some consciousness
02:28about whether it's a double entendre or whatever,
02:31but it made them cool.
02:33And what I heard her say is that they convinced,
02:36and she didn't say who specifically,
02:37but that they were convinced that, oh,
02:39this is cool to make this.
02:41If you do this scene, you guys are gonna look cool
02:44because you're doing the innuendo, right?
02:47And it sounds like she has reservations
02:49about the way that they were convinced, as she put it.
02:53She also talked about how things need to change
02:57in the industry, and that parents need
03:00to have more involvement and be allowed
03:03to have involvement in the set.
03:05That's been a big issue for decades,
03:07about parents that are pushing kids
03:10that are not necessarily present when they're working.
03:16But that's been an issue.
03:17I don't see how you solve that issue
03:19because there are parents who will push kids sometimes,
03:22and it's all about make them famous.
03:23But I think you're right, after this docu-series,
03:26that parents either, that the producers
03:29may want the parents to be there
03:31because you don't want to open yourself up.
03:32Well, I think that since this documentary came out,
03:34parents are more involved.
03:36I think that people are paying more attention
03:37to what their kids are doing and they're staying.
03:39Everything's more by the book, I think,
03:41where they're making sure kids have work permits,
03:44they're making sure they have the right accounts,
03:46they're making sure that the parents are there.
03:47Some of your kids are doing this, right?
03:49Yeah, all of my kids have been in a couple of things
03:51with my husband.
03:52So the difference between last year and this year,
03:55I think, is kind of significant.
03:57I think it's better, one, for the parents,
04:00and I think the productions don't want any trouble.
04:03They do not want to be the subject of a sequel.
04:07Exactly.
04:08Hey, what's up?
04:09I'm Shaheen from South Carolina.
04:10And to be honest, I'm honestly really glad
04:12that Ariana spoke about this,
04:14and she's also in a place to speak about this
04:16to the best of her abilities
04:17because a lot of the scenes from the documentary
04:20that aired were hers.
04:22Just her speaking about it as she could is very important
04:25because I agree that spaces like this
04:27should definitely be made safer for child actors.
04:30Yeah, absolutely.
04:31Okay.
04:32Okay.
04:33Okay.
