Feminist Movements | Second Wave of Feminism | History of Second Wave of Feminism | CSS and PMS

The second wave feminism movement took place in the 1960s and 1970s and focused on issues of equality and discrimination. Starting initially in the United States with American women, the feminist liberation movement soon spread to other Western countries.

The term "Second Wave" feminism refers to the period of feminist activity that began in the early 1960s and continued through the late 1980s. The term was coined in 1968 by journalist Martha Lear in a New York Times Magazine article titled "The Second Feminist Wave." This wave focused on a broad range of issues including sexuality, family, the workplace, reproductive rights, and legal inequalities, building upon the earlier "First Wave" feminism which had primarily focused on suffrage and legal obstacles to gender equality.
