00:08 I don't live in Newark. I used to live in Newark and it wasn't safe then.
00:14 That's why I moved away.
00:16 There was people with guns of some kind in the fields behind us shooting at my house wall
00:24 and I reported it to the police and they didn't record it because they said,
00:31 "Well, nobody was hurt and no actual damage was done, so therefore we're not recording it."
00:38 That was one thing.
00:42 Then a friend of mine, something similar happened to her in her garden in a different area of Newark
00:51 and you could actually see the marks on the wall where her head would have been
00:57 and they didn't do anything about that either and they didn't record it either.
01:00 So this is why they say that the crime is going down.
01:07 It's because you're not recording half the crime.
01:10 People ring up about their concerns and what's happened and they don't record it.
01:15 So I'm sorry. A lot of people don't believe these statistics.
01:20 I don't feel safe in Newark. Why?
01:22 Because there's a certain party of travellers that make my life hell.
01:28 They dance all over. A boy has just been dancing on the seat where I'm sitting now.
01:34 It's unbelievable. They've got no control over them and it's such a pity.
01:41 Another thing as well, I'm a blue badge holder.
01:45 I've been coming to Newark now for 50 years and I can't come in this market with my blue badge.
01:52 I need another badge but yet the white vans with the travellers in can come into the town centre
01:58 and that to me is not fair. I've supported Newark for 50 something years.
02:04 I've been here 55 years. I came from Ireland when I was 19 and I just love the place.
02:13 I feel safe. I come down at night, I walk down to Trent. It's a beautiful place.
02:20 Unfortunately because of the internet all the shops are closing.
02:26 And it's a shame, a big shame because I don't understand the flaming internet.
02:34 I don't know. I have a phone and all I do is receive calls and give calls and that's it.
02:41 I feel safe in Newark. I've lived here all my life. So I've never had no problems.
