00:00University Malaysia Sabah UMS students proceeded with their protest over the state's water
00:08issues on Friday, despite not having a police permit.
00:12The group, numbering fewer than 50, marched approximately five kilometres from the UMS
00:17campus to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Jinur's office at Menara Kinabalu, the state administrative
00:23building, at around 2.30pm amid a heavy police presence.
00:28Joined by NGOs, the students highlighted the severe water problems affecting various
00:33parts of Sabah, not just the UMS campus.
00:37They aimed to meet Hajiji to personally deliver a six-point memorandum demanding immediate
00:43solutions to the state-wide water supply issues.
00:47Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Sahelmi Yahya offered to receive the memorandum on behalf
00:52of the Chief Minister, but the group refused.
00:56The protest coordinator, Muhammad Nurhamdin Nordin, stated they would only hand the memorandum
01:01to Hajiji himself and would sit in front of Menara Kinabalu until he emerged.
01:08Sahelmi suggested the protest might be politically motivated.
01:26Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda informed the group that the Chief
01:43Minister had agreed to meet them next week.
01:45But the students remained steadfast, continuing to voice their demands loudly.
