The annual celebration of outdoors arts - SO Festival - is continuing indoors at the Embassy Theatre, Skegness, due to concerns about the weather forecast.
Transcript
00:00There's quite a lot happening. I'm with Jens Freeman, who's the director of the Sov Festival.
00:07Now, unfortunately, there has been some changes to this week's plans, haven't they?
00:13Can you explain what's happening?
00:15Well, basically, it's like what can happen any time in the UK.
00:20It's the weather. The weather forecast was really bad.
00:24And it means that basically we think the risk was too high,
00:27although a lot of the performances are actually adaptable for some changes in the weather.
00:32The weather forecast was really too bad.
00:34So there was a risk that we would have to cancel everything if we insisted to do it outdoors.
00:41So now we just took our plan B and moved everything into the Embassy Theatre.
00:47Well, the auditorium has been cleared, hasn't it? And the show will go on.
00:51So can you tell me what people can expect this weekend?
00:55They can expect a lot of fun. And I would invite everyone just to come down to the Embassy Theatre.
01:02And they can plan something. They can go on our website and see the detailed program.
01:06But they can also just drop by and see what is happening at the moment.
01:11It will be going on all day from today at 2 o'clock until, I think, 7 or 8 in the evening.
01:16And tomorrow also from 12 until around 8 in the evening.
01:21So there will be a lot of activities here. And it's for sure going to be a lot of fun.
01:25Some really great international circus, street theatre acts that we have been selecting,
01:31especially for Skatenest, because we think they fit amazingly in this area.
01:38And we're a little bit sad that it can't happen outside.
01:41But the artists are also very excited to actually show what they have done to the audience here.
01:47So we're hoping a lot of people will come.
01:49So can you describe some of the acts that people will see?
01:53Well, some of them are circus acts, meaning that it's circus artists doing different types of skills.
02:00There's a lot of comic shows also. It's for sure going to be entertaining.
02:05But it's also a little bit different, I would say.
02:07A lot of the acts here are in the UK for the first time.
02:10And it's also one of our ambitions to actually show something that's a little special in Skatenest,
02:16so that it's not just what you actually experience in a lot of other festivals.
02:20For us it's really important that it really becomes something special.
02:24So I will guarantee for everyone coming down to the auditorium that they will have a very special experience,
02:32because we all also have to work a little bit together on this.
02:36The artists are in a place that is not ideal for them, and the same with the audience.
02:40So we have to create something together.
02:42And I hope a lot of people will take part in that, because it's for sure going to be fun.
02:46Well, credit to you for carrying on in spite of the weather.
02:51Now, it is for families, isn't it? And it is free, that is...
02:57It's not just for families, it's for everyone. Everyone is interested.
03:00From small children to old people, everybody can have something out of this.
03:06Yeah, it would be good just to get somewhere lively,
03:08because I think this weather has been a bit miserable, hasn't it, over the past few days?
03:12Now, you're here today and tomorrow in Skatenest, but it is a three-day festival.
03:18There are plans for Mablethorpe as well, so what's happening with those?
03:21We have a full-day program in Mablethorpe as well on Sunday,
03:25which is basically a lot of the same artists moving to different venues in Mablethorpe.
03:32If you haven't the chance to actually see what's happening in Skatenest today or tomorrow,
03:38I can really recommend you then go to Mablethorpe and seek the festival out there.
03:43Well, there is a link to an article on this broadcast that people can go to,
03:49and that's got a link to the actual full program for the weekend,
03:53so people can get an idea. They just have to be mindful that if they're in Skatenest,
03:58the acts are going to be in the Embassy Theatre.
04:04You were saying that if the weather finds up, some of the acts might just venture outside.
04:10I would say no matter what, go to the Embassy Theatre.
04:13There might be some small things going on outside, but it's something that people decide on the spot,
04:17and for sure you can get all the information about the festival at the Embassy Theatre.
04:21Well, I think everybody's wishing you good luck for the weekend.
04:25We can't do anything about the weather, can we?
04:28But we're used to carrying on in Britain, so I hope everyone still comes along,
04:35and you have a great weekend.
04:37Thank you so much.
