A North Oxford housewife is found hanged in her home and the initial investigation suggests suicide. Rachel Mallory leaves behind her devastated husband Hugh and her two young daughters, but Lewis' instincts tell him that something is wrong with the suicide verdict. He strikes up a friendship with the Mallory's neighbour, Stephanie Fielding, who points him in the direction of a key piece of information.
