00:00Thousands of villagers of Hila village, Leihitu district, Central Maluku regency, Maluku,
00:09celebrate the tradition of Lawapipi on the 18th of June.
00:13Lawapipi is a unique custom that is always done by the people of Hila every Eid al-Adha.
00:18Lawapipi, in the local language, means that it is a goat race.
00:22In its practice, before the animal is slaughtered,
00:25prayer reading or tahlil is done by religious leaders.
00:29After the prayer is recited, the biggest goat, or usually called Kambing Temal,
00:33is placed in the front row as a substitute for the Prophet Ismail.
00:38The goat is then led around the village while reciting the Takbir and Tahmid.
00:42After that, the victim's animal is slaughtered by the villagers
00:45and led around the Hila village mosque seven times,
00:49and followed by the villagers.
00:51After seven rounds, the goat is taken to the slaughterhouse.
00:55When the Kambing Temal is slaughtered,
00:56the villagers will throw metal or paper money towards it
01:00with the hope of good and rejecting the reward.
01:02This process is like throwing jumroh.
01:05The money that is thrown will be collected to buy spices
01:08as well as the need to cook the victim's animal
01:10which will be distributed to the people who are not able to afford it.
01:16This is the mosque, it is like a toa.
01:19Then, in a condition of running a bit fast,
01:23we have been taught to prepare the Kambing Temal like this
01:28before we ask for the holy water.
01:30Remember, if we ask for the holy water,
01:31the human will not be able to understand
01:33when the Kambing Temal is brought here.
01:37Then, the Kambing Temal will be placed in a bowl
01:40as a form of offering before being served.
01:43This tradition is an ancient way of planting spiritual values
01:46to the children and grandchildren in the Hila village
01:48so that the development of this era will not continue.
