00:00Africa Oye, the UK's largest free celebration of African music and culture, takes place annually
00:06in Liverpool. Beginning in 1992 as a series of small gigs in the city centre, the event's gone
00:11from strength to strength, moving to its present Sefton Park home in 2002 to cope with demand.
00:17This year's event takes place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of June. The line-up for 2024
00:23features Julian Marley and the Uprising, Florence Aduni and Le Amazon Afrique. The Oye village
00:30features storytelling, face painting, drumming workshops, arts and crafts and more, with authentic
00:35African, Asian and Caribbean cuisine on offer. The festival is set to welcome back a host of
00:40familiar faces as well as some brand new talent to DJ at the festival, with the region's finest
00:44Afro-centric DJs and those from further afield showcasing their sounds across the wider festival
00:49site. The family-friendly event is suitable for wheelchair users and there'll be British
00:53Sign Language interpreters on stage. Dogs are also welcome but they must be kept on a lead.
