00:00Two years ago, we launched Battalion's Kickstarter with an idea, and that idea came from how
00:18much we love FPS games, but they've lost something.
00:22That magic blend of simplicity and skillful play that made the down-the-barrel experience
00:26so awesome to play.
00:29I feel like that's what we've spent the last two years, hand-crafting into Battalion.
00:39When you combine a classic shooter with all the great trappings of modern game design,
00:44such as matchmaking, amici, and rankings, you have the makings of a classic shooter
00:50in its own right.
00:52To me, I think this is the best FPS game of the year.
01:00Everything we did and all that we sacrificed has got us to this point right now, where
01:05we can finally make the FPS game that we always wanted to make.
01:10Throughout development, it's been so important for us to study every aspect of World War
01:14II.
01:15The main thing for us is to really understand the brutality and the visceral nature of the
01:18Second World War.
01:20Combining the beautiful backdrop of World War II France in Unreal Engine with classic
01:25shooters that we grew up playing as kids, I think it's a winning combination.
01:31We're here to immerse ourselves in the area where the collision of these massive war machines
01:34took place.
01:35And sometimes it's something small, like a barn or a window where a sniper may hide,
01:38but sometimes entire streets make it into the game, and that has a massive impact on
01:41Battalion.
01:42I think players are going to really see that when they boot up our maps for the first time.
01:45The subtleties of the environment, the damage, allowed us to push the boundaries in terms
01:50of art and level design.
01:52Every time we get out here, we find something new and amazing that slots right into Battalion
01:57and feels great.
02:01It's not about reinventing the wheel, it's about going back to what was great about games
02:06and has been lost.
02:07There's that element of nostalgia when you pick up Battalion 1944 where you go, yeah,
02:13this is like playing COD 2, this is like playing COD 4.
02:17You're getting like an adrenaline-fueled, satisfying gameplay experience.
02:25We've been working so damn hard just to make sure that we capture the intensity that these
02:28weapons have.
02:29And making that translate to a mouse and keyboard, it's been a challenge, but I feel like we've
02:32really nailed it.
02:33We play games every night and we can see what we want to play as players, and we know there's
02:38other players that want to do the same thing.
02:42That's just a classic shooter with casual and competitive modes for like $14.
02:47We're just listening to what FPS fans want to play.
02:57During Battalion's Kickstarter, I was planning my wedding, and the month after it was successful,
03:01I got married and then we found out she was having a baby.
03:04And everything was really high in my life, and about halfway through the development
03:08of Battalion, my daughter was born, but she only survived for about two hours.
03:15And that was right in the middle of Battalion.
03:19I think one of the hardest things was coming back to work, but when I did come back, I
03:24found a place where I could just focus on something that I really love doing, and being
03:29able to sit down and read the forums and see the community kind of rallying together and
03:33sending me messages and telling me to keep going and saying it'll be okay, and people
03:37in our community have had the same thing happen to them.
03:39Battalion and the Battalion community has actually helped me get through that, and I
03:43think with Battalion coming out, there's only really good things on the horizon.
03:47So it's been a tough year, but Battalion's helped me get through a lot more than a lot
03:51of people who play Battalion will ever know.
03:57Battalion is not just about World War II, it's about recapturing those days that have
04:01gone by, the fun that we had playing until 3am and practicing really late into the night.
04:07Those memories, they're the driving force that really pushed us to make Battalion the
04:11true successor to the great shooters of the past.
04:14When you look at all the incredible people that are involved in making this amazing project
04:19happen, from just community members messaging us saying, good job, keep up the work, all
04:23the way to our tech guys staying late just to make sure that the game modes get in so
04:28we can be testing them, everyone has had an important role at some point in this project.
04:36I think the exciting thing about 1944 is the fact that the conception of that game was
04:41from a group of people who understood eSports and played in eSports, effectively the community
04:47was in a way building a game for the community.
04:52This has been two years of really hard work just to create something from nothing, finally
04:58we're able to say that on January 9th we'll be able to show you the Battalion 1944 game
05:03trailer.
05:06Thank you for watching.
05:07See you next time.
05:08Bye.
05:09Bye.
05:10Bye.
05:11Bye.
05:12Bye.
