Sheffield butcher talks about his new found fame on Facebook for his crazy hats
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Daz, the owner of Patterson's Butchers in Sheffield.
00:03Fabulous, and we are here today because we have spotted your Facebook page, and you've
00:08been getting a lot of followers. Could you tell us a little bit about your videos that
00:13you've been doing?
00:14Yeah, it started off as a joke. One of my friend's daughters called me that name that
00:19you'll see on my Facebook page, which we're not allowed to say on here. And it started
00:23as a joke and it just took off, so I thought I'd try it on Facebook one day. I didn't know
00:27if it was a bit too offensive, but it turns out it weren't. And then because of that,
00:31we started getting loads of people watching us Daz videos and following us.
00:35Amazing, so for those that haven't watched your videos yet, you're basically, you're
00:39telling everyone about what you've got in store, and you're wearing great hats. Could
00:45you show us a few of your favourite hats?
00:47Well, obviously we've got this one. This one's had a sore throat, he's a little horse. We've
00:54got a turkey. Turkey's always popular. Nice turkey at Christmas. I'm not sure of the one
01:00that's got my name on it, but I'm sure if you look at my page you'll find it. We've
01:04got a shark, which we like. We like the shark. The shark's good. That's the one. And we've
01:09got Jester's hat, which I love this one. It's one of my favourites. Love Jester's hat, because
01:15I'm a bit of a clown sometimes, so it's appropriate.
01:18Amazing. How many hats have you got in your collection?
01:21Must be about 150 now. Must be. If anybody wants to send any more, you're welcome to send them in.
01:27Where do you keep them all? Do they all live in the back?
01:30Yeah, they're everywhere. It's a shop, to be honest. I need a bigger shop just for hats.
01:34So yeah, we've got black bags and boxes full of bags. People keep sending them in, which
01:39is very kind of them.
01:41That's brilliant.
01:42Because during Covid, hats had a very hard time of it, and I think people neglected them
01:46a lot, so I'm trying to help hats out going forward.
01:49Well, we all need more people like you around.
01:54And then going back to Facebook, you've got 18,000 followers. How does that feel? I mean,
02:01that's quite famous.
02:03I wouldn't say famous, but yeah, it's nice that people like what we're doing, and hopefully
02:08the likers meet as well. It's not just purely to watch us laugh kind of thing, but yeah,
02:14it's a nice feeling to have built it up from nothing up to knocking on to 19,000 now, so
02:20hopefully hit that magic 20 one day.
02:23Yes, hopefully. Maybe even this year as you're celebrating 20 years.
02:26Yes, yeah, that'd be good.
02:27That'd be riveting.
02:2820,000 for 20 years, that'd be good.
02:30Yeah?
02:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:32Oh, great. And in terms of the videos, what sort of reaction have you had from them? Are
02:43you seeing an increase in sales, or is it just a lot of interaction?
02:47We get a lot of interaction. We have had increased sales through it, yeah, if we put a post on
02:52Facebook with a special offer on, or we do a lot of packs, especially with summer coming
02:56up. We do get a lot of business from Facebook, yeah, it's good for that. But it's not just
03:01about that. We like a laugh and a joke, so we thought we'd just do it on camera, and
03:07hopefully people are shocked with us, but if they don't, at least they're having a laugh.
03:10Yeah, definitely. And you've recently started doing international, no, national delivery.
03:16Yeah, www.patsandbutchers.co.uk, got to get a plug in. Yeah, with Nationwide Delivery
03:22is available now. It's only starting slow, so we're adding stuff to it all the time,
03:26but hopefully we'll be able to get to you wherever you are in country.
