00:00When Abdullah took over, at first people thought that he was a very good leader and they gave him full support.

00:10Between 2004 and 2008, it was shown that he was not capable.

00:19Former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad,

00:23was the longest serving Prime Minister of Malaysia,

00:26due to his irrefutable replacement,

00:28and it began after he resigned in 2003.

00:33Mahathir claimed that the Malay community was largely united under UMNO

00:37during his first term as Prime Minister for 22 years.

00:42Although Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who was Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009,

00:48led the national team to a historic victory in the 2004 PRU,

00:54Mahathir recalled that four years later,

00:58the combination of the loss of a 2-3 majority in the People's Assembly for the first time since 1969.

01:06Under the leadership of Abdullah,

01:08BN also lost control over five countries in the 2008 General Election.

01:14Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Selangor, Perak, and Kelantan.

01:18That was the beginning of the split in the UMNO.

01:24UMNO became very weak and people were not supporting UMNO anymore.

01:30Mahathir claimed that the situation became worse under Najib Razak,

01:34who replaced Abdullah as Prime Minister,

01:37and the 1MDB scandal caused more Malays to distance themselves from UMNO.

01:43The scandal sparked widespread anger

01:47and became an important factor in BN's defeat in the 2018 General Election,

01:53where they were overthrown by the Hope Alliance,

01:56marking the first government change in the history of the country.

02:00Mahathir was also disappointed that the split of Malay political power

02:04had weakened their efforts to win the majority in the General Election.

02:11At one time, the Malays were united in UMNO.

02:17All Malays are in UMNO, including the religious people,

02:21English-educated, Malay-educated, all were in UMNO.

02:26But those who left UMNO, they started forming a lot of political parties.

02:33So the Malays are now split into four or five political parties.
