This year's World's Ugliest Dog is a Pekingese named Wild Thang. The dog, from Coos Bay, Oregon, has competed in five previous World's Ugliest Dog competitions, but only won this Friday (June 21).

00:00The world's ugliest dog is Wild Thang!
00:06This year's world's ugliest dog is a Pekingese named Wild Thang.
00:10The dog, from Coos Bay, Oregon, has competed in five previous world's ugliest dog competitions,
00:16but only won this Friday.
00:18Wild Thang and owner Anne Lewis will take home a check for $5,000 and be flown to New
00:23York for a special appearance on NBC's The Today Show next Monday.
00:28Well, I think Wild Thang was a fan favorite and the fact that he had been competing for
00:35five times and only came in second, it's kind of like the bridesmaid and never the bride,
00:39I think, you know, really tugged at our heartstrings that, you know, he deserved to win, so...
00:45Second place in the annual competition to raise awareness of animal rescue and adoption
00:50went to a first-time entrant, a wheelchair-bound 14-year-old pug named Roam.
00:55His owner, Michelle Grady of Roanert Park, California, was thrilled with the result.
01:00Well, we're super excited.
01:03I mean, to win second place out of everybody that was here is a real honor.
01:08It's a real honor.
01:10Yeah.
01:11And, you know, we're a little bit of local color, so, yeah, I just, I love it.
01:16I love this whole contest.
01:18I love that it represents dogs that are imperfect, imperfectly perfect.
01:25And, yeah, Roam is a, he has the best time, he really did, he had the best time.
01:33Third place in the 2024 show went to another first-time contestant and 14-year-old dog,
01:40a white-coated mixed-breed rescue named Daisy May.
01:44Her owner, Elizabeth Whitehouse, from Lafayette, California, was shocked to win.
01:49I'm shocked.
01:51This was not my idea, it was my daughter's idea.
01:55And I didn't think she had a chance.
01:57I thought that she would be the most beautiful ugly dog, but as it turns out, other people
02:02don't see the beauty in her that I do.
