"Shikwa" (Complaint) is one of the most celebrated and powerful poems by the renowned philosopher, poet, and politician Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Written in 1909, "Shikwa" is a lamentation directed towards God, where Iqbal articulates the grievances of the Muslim community regarding their declining socio-political state. This poem, alongside its counterpart "Jawab-e-Shikwa" (Answer to the Complaint), forms a significant part of Iqbal’s poetic oeuvre and his philosophical reflections on the condition of Muslims in the early 20th century.
