00:00Good morning, Martin Cohen, South Yorkshire Police. We're here today, we've got a selection
00:07of us, police officers, specials and cadets to help the council to celebrate Armed Forces
00:13Day. Hugely important for the police that we're represented here to help with the engagement
00:19with the council and also to support the veterans that ultimately their efforts mean that we
00:26can be here to celebrate this today openly as we do.
00:32It's Veterans Day today here in Sheffield and we've had the most wonderful day. I've
00:37spent the morning chatting to a lot of our veterans and our cadets and then the most
00:42moving service with wonderful speeches from Councillor Fox, our veterans champion and
00:49Pat Davey and it's a real privilege and an honour to be able to pay tribute to those
00:55who gave their lives and who served and to actually look forward to the future.
01:04Hello I'm Councillor Denise Fox, the veterans champion and we're here today to celebrate
01:10the Armed Forces Veterans Day. We've had a fantastic turnout, it's been a lovely sunny
01:16day and we've had lots of cadets and army reservists joining us and we've had some vehicles
01:24from the parachute regiment and it's great and we should never forget what they've done
01:29for us, the armed forces and services are forever in their debt and we should come along
01:39and celebrate this day and next year hopefully we'll have a bigger and better day because
01:43it's going to be celebrating the end of the war, 80 years since the end of the war.
01:50Come along and join us, thank you.
01:53I'm Pat Davey, I'm the Chairman of the Joint Council of Ex-Service Associations and I'm
02:02here today because of Armed Forces Day. We have had a wonderful turnout of ex-servicemen
02:12and women and that is right, we've also had a lot of the public and we owe to those
02:20men and women who fought, particularly 80 years ago this year, we owe our freedom and
02:29our lives and it behoves all of us to remember the great gift that they gave to us, our country
02:37back, our freedom and the power to grow up out of fear, away from fear and to not have
02:49to look over our shoulder all the time as to where the enemy is.
