Scotland vs Hungary Euro 2024 Stopped after a Medical Emergency Involving Barnabas Varga

The match between Scotland and Hungary in Euro 2024 was stopped after a medical emergency in the second half.

On Sunday night, Scotland arrived at the MHPArena knowing they needed a win to give themselves the best chance of advancing to the round of 16 at Euro 2024.

Steve Clarke's men had most of the ball during a cagey first half but largely failed to make Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi work.

In the match's second half, with 69 minutes on the clock, proceedings were stopped after a collision between Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Barnabas Varga.

Varga was left on the deck and referee Facundo Tello stopped the game straight away.

The medical staff rushed onto the pitch as concerns began to rise about the well-being of Varga.

Speaking on the BBC, commentator Steve Wilson said that Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai was left in tears as blankets were held up to shield Varga from the cameras.

Eventually, Varga was carried off a stretcher and replaced by Martin Adam.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, former Scotland player Pat Nevin said: "We have seen it before if a keeper comes out and he doesn't get the ball but takes a player it is a foul. I think Angus Gunn got some of the ball there."

Sky Sports reporter Joe Shread said: "There's going to be plenty of stoppage time. Varga looks in a very bad way.

"Let's hope this isn't as serious as it looks."
